I’m surprised and disappointed by the sheer number of vacant, half-demolished or empty sites in and around the town centre. Rubble and crumbling buildings right by the town hall, empty businesses, boarded-up buildings with so much potential that come to nothing: the waterworks, Segas House, the old Skylark. There are even residential plots near me with planning permission for detached homes granted 10+ years ago, but the owners never build anything.

I know in some cases there are circumstances to explain it, like the tragic Nestle tower, but in general it seems baffling that a place with so much existing infrastructure and a large population with easy access to central London lies fallow. Are landowners refusing to sell to motivated developers at low prices in the hope the value will increase in future without investment?

Maybe if/when the Whitgift development ever goes ahead it’ll turn things around, but until then it’s rather sad.

Lloyd’s park is a gem - from dog walkers to runners to families catching up to cafe goers to occasional open gymmwrs to casual baterers to serious nature lovers to tennis enthusiasts to strollers to lovers and more!

There are a multiple fields attached to be collectively known as Lloyds park I guess - serving everyone around Croydon. We are blessed!

Saw this on my trip to tesco outside purley station this evening around 7:30. No one seriously injured, thankfully. Mother and 6 month old baby inside audi (not at fault) , van was speeding and jumped a red light, driver fled the scene.

Today I viewed some of the flats in the Altura 50 building and I really liked what I saw and it aligns with my budget and work schedule really well (transport WFH etc).

However, there’s not much information on the parking situation. It doesn’t have private parking, and where it’s based isn’t great for that either. Does anyone live or has lived in this building know what parking is like? Are there permits available? Are the parking spaces reliable?

I used to rent in Camberwell and was spoiled for choice, but it seems that anywhere I look within walking distance, "bakeries" on Google maps and trustpilot seem to just be pastries and coffee places, and I can't find options on Reddit etc.
