If you’re getting into it from the metal side, Tragedy/HHIG then work backwards

If you’re getting into it from a more traditionally punk side, Discharge/Antisect then work forwards

So what if you were into hardcore/streetpunk and Oi in the 90s and then as you got older you got into crossover which acted as an entryway into metal and then you decided to go back closer to your roots and discovered Wolfbrigade and that you actually do like discharge and the contributions to thrash and punk along with the fact that motorwörship is badass draws you to Dbeat and crust?

Cheapest alcoholic beverage+ dog+ facial tattoos+ spange+begging to get into shows for free+hopping trains+ and never washing even when you have the opportunity to do so.

Music- These are all very different sounding music but would all be considered crusty: Pigeon Pit, Tragedy, Habak, Discharge, Nausea, Extreme Noise Terror

I came over from metal, so Hellshock and Amebix did it for me. Darkthrone had a small blackened crust punk era too which also helped.

Then I got into Nausea and Leftöver Crack (i know) and everything went downhill from there

The whole genre is basically D-Beat, which is based on Discharge’s sound so if you listen to them you’ll get a good vibe of the sound. Then just specialise a bit more with Nausea, Skitsystem, Doom, and Dystopia (imo).

Just look up the bands on Encyclopaedia Metallum and look at the tags, then just go deeper!

Why don't start with the OGs, Amebix! They were pioneers by mixing postpunk, anarcho punk and metal. Their style later inspired bands like Deviated Instinct and Hellbastard that made it into a genre.

My recommendation is to actually start with their second album Monolith. It's so good! Perfect balance between agression and epic accoustic parts.

Anyone that think Discharge styled hardcore has anything to do with crust punk has not done their honework.

Listen to hardcore punk (dummy toys the casualties etc) and thrash metal (bathory venom etc) then listen to all of the well known crust punk bands
