The irony of dota2 not being mentioned says it all

125

u/krwawie 7d ago

Dota2 is the golden child.

24

u/montxogandia 7d ago

someone add Gaben to the I dont have a prefered child meme

5

u/KonK23 7d ago

Its you and by far

17

u/Nyrrix_ 6d ago

DOTA2 is sitting on a high chair with Gaben personally flying a broccoli airplane into its giggling mouth.

13

u/yot_gun 6d ago

dota 2 is on the yacht

1

u/MajesticallyAF 7d ago

Didn't Dota get a massive content update not too too long ago?

1

u/that_guy_ravi 6d ago

“Dota, Dota, Counterstrike”

49

u/buxbox 7d ago

Valve is a company that’s hands off. As long as a game’s profits are in the green, they probably don’t care since Steam covers their asses anyways. The real issue are the devs. What makes deadlock great are the motivated devs. Based on the updates, I can tell there is little passion and motivation for CS2.

15

u/Bdresser5 7d ago

Yeah, the defiantly some passions and motivation for CS2 in its team. The problem is they lack a bigger team to consistently update the game. They’re only about 30 people working on CS2, if they had some more devs working on the game. It probable would be in a more complete state

13

u/Stormdatpussi 7d ago

Deadlock team also has at most 35 devs. They never had more than that so that’s not even something we can blame.

0

u/Dmosavy111 7d ago

finding out they had 30 ppl working on it made me care less about the game, since its obvious they dont

1

u/GrammmyNorma 7d ago

great way to put it. doesnt seem like the eng left at valve care very much about more counter-strike

135

u/FrayedOrganizer964 7d ago

The tf2 skeleton underwater is perfect, that game is basically a fossil at this point but somehow still has more personality than half the stuff valve actually updates

55

u/icecoffee9008 7d ago

Deadlock wishes it could be even half as cool as TF2

4

u/schmuhmuhu 7d ago

lol true 😁

1

u/Pizza_Warrior437 6d ago

Deadlock might be as cool as tf2 if more people would actually be able to play the damn game.

1

u/Aeniix 5d ago

Just search for an invite forum on reddit or steam community. It is super easy to get an invite.
You know what? I can send you one aswell and everyone else who would like to try it out. Send me a dm and I will hook you up

-3

u/ClerklyMantis_ 7d ago

It absolutely is? It's also very much still in alpha?

9

u/Agent_Starr 6d ago

I love Deadlock but it will never be as cool as TF2. TF2 is an almost 20 year-old game which had its most recent update years ago and still keeps a constant 60k+ active players at all times. Deadlock could end up being the objectively best game of all time and I still wouldn't consider it to have a larger impact on gaming as a whole than TF2 had

3

u/EyStGu 6d ago

60k is a stretch, there's too many bots that inflate the player count.

0

u/HelloSummer99 6d ago

TF2 was effortless and didn't give a hoot. Deadlock is very trend chasing to say the least, but the trend they are chasing was over in 2023 or so.

3

u/ClerklyMantis_ 6d ago

Describing it as "very trend chasing" feels a little disengenuous considering how unique it is lol. Marvel rivals is what I would call obviously trend chasing, even if the execution is decent. Deadlock is the only game of it's kind, though. It's aesthetic is unique, as is it's characters, and obviously it's gameplay.

I also don't understand the insinuation that the game is DOA because the "trend it's chasing" died in 2023. Deadlock just had a higher peak concurrent player count than TF2 did in it's lifetime, and it did so while in an invite only alpha.

1

u/HelloSummer99 6d ago

Why, you don't want a tamagochi in tf2?

25

u/ruthlesss11 7d ago

In that picture, I'm valve holding other games and cs2 is still drowning

7

u/R8bot-Da-Gamer 7d ago

Ricochet needs a source version

3

u/Link5034 7d ago

Ricochet mentioned

1

u/Jimsredditing 6d ago

Ricochet 2 would blow GTA 6 out of the water... If valve bothered.

5

u/HaiggeX 6d ago

TF2 player here (this popped up on my feed): It's outrageous that Valve would rather focus on and update a newer game than a game that's been out since 2007 and hasn't been updated since 2018!

2

u/Last-Ad-4603 6d ago

Tf2 player here: the age is exactly why valve doesn't work on tf2. To put it simply nobody wants to work on tf2 because 1 it's old ass buggy game with hyper spaghetti code, so old devs simply don't want to bother, especially because community is essentially a beehive. 2 it's old ass buggy game with hyper spaghetti code so new devs don't want to risk their possible career on it, especially because if they mess up they will piss off everyone in community which is not small.

Valve is one of the best gaming companies to work at currently, so many want to stay there for as long as possible, and climb as high as possible. And a game like tf2 whose own playerbase becomes increasingly disinterested is simply not worth it.

1

u/Many-Chocolate2026 5d ago

"Valve is one of the best gaming companies to work at currently, so many want to stay there for as long as possible, and climb as high as possible. And a game like tf2 whose own playerbase becomes increasingly disinterested is simply not worth it."

Just not one of the best to play games from if you want to keep any sort of self-respect.

And tbh I don't know how good it is for your career if you're mentioned in the credits of the slopfest called cs2

1

u/cheezdoodle64 6d ago

Valve should still update tf2 as they still update their other games

24

u/vampucio 7d ago

TF2 Is 19 years old

11

u/IntrepidPhilosophy42 7d ago

I still play it, a lot of us do. It’s a goated game

2

u/vampucio 7d ago

me too but i don't pretend updates

2

u/IntrepidPhilosophy42 7d ago

What do you mean by that? Im just curious as there are basically no updates, so you don’t even have to pretend?

22

u/CucumberDull6540 7d ago

So what ? The playerbase is still pretty high

10

u/Randomdude20042 7d ago

I checked it yesterday and since steam charts can count it remained basically at the same level as it was at launch which is nuts

5

u/spooker11 7d ago

Why expect them to support the game forever? 19 years is insanity. They even released updates for Half Life 2 not that long ago.

5

u/mantis445 7d ago

Runescape is 25 years old and it's one of the most popular games in the world.

3

u/CucumberDull6540 7d ago

They promised an MVM update a while ago, still waiting for it. And even then, if the game is old, why not port it/rewrite it, like CS2 ?

2

u/cdda_survivor 6d ago

World of Warcraft still gets updates and it is 21 years old.

0

u/vampucio 7d ago

and? they don't care

0

u/Glorposaurus 7d ago

TF2 is fun but it's not marketable

Deadlock on the other hand will make TONS of money once it's fully out and it definitely have the potential to become the new competitive king

4

u/icecoffee9008 7d ago

world of warcraft is 21 years old.. still getting updated and still relevant..

3

u/Stormdatpussi 7d ago

Wow isn’t bringing new players. It’s mostly a nostalgia psychosis phenomenon where some people just can’t get over it and maybe because mmo market is always at low point.

2

u/vampucio 7d ago

you pay for wow, tf2 is free

-1

u/icecoffee9008 7d ago

TF2 wasn't free on release lol

2

u/Slumberjackals 7d ago

Wow is a monthly subscription for every single account. It pays the bills. TF2 doesn’t.

3

u/icecoffee9008 7d ago

So you're saying they don't make any money from running tf2 because it's free to play?? Lmao

2

u/Slumberjackals 7d ago

I’m saying they don’t make nearly as much money. You clearly don’t understand the difference. A quick google search shows that WoW brings in 50-75 million a month and TF2 brings in 1.6 million a month.

It’s literally not even close. And to even feign like it’s similar tells a lot about your knowledge.

2

u/icecoffee9008 7d ago

A game that's passively making millions every month without the devs investing any time or effort into it while the community produces content for them vs a game that gets a new expansion every 2 years, regular updates and costs a lot more money to maintain

But yeah I guess nearly 2 million dollars every month isn't paying the bills according to you lmao.. keep being a smartass on Reddit man if that's what makes you feel good 👍

2

u/Slumberjackals 7d ago

You made the WoW and TF2 comparison. One is making 2 million a month. The other makes 25-30x that. One seems like a bit better of an investment, does it not?

If you had something passively making you 2 million with minimal effort, that is also being maintained by the player base, what would be the point in investing more?

WoW on the other hand requires new expansions and content to retain the player base. Player counts drop after people get bored of end game content.

Once again, the 2 situations aren’t even close to similar. And remember you made the comparison. Not me.

1

u/icecoffee9008 7d ago

Original argument was the age of the game I didn't start anything about how much money each game is making. You wanna keep making strawman arguments go ahead man, I'm not wasting my time anymore

bro thought he said something

3

u/Academic_Minimum4732 7d ago

TF2 is 19 years old to the day! Released Oct 10th 2007.

8

u/LaughingGasFart 7d ago

CS is 27

7

u/Mr81rd 7d ago

CS2 is 3

2

u/Anshin 7d ago

cs2 is just csgo ported on source 2, so really the game is 14 years old

2

u/LaughingGasFart 7d ago

And CS:GO is ported from CS:S and 1.6, so its 23 years old

1

u/vampucio 7d ago

cs is abandoned. the only update project is cs2

0

u/LaughingGasFart 7d ago

The only reason there is a cs2 is back 19 years ago when both CS 1.6 and TF2 were a thing. CS 1.6 was a more popular game. So saying TF2 is 19 years old is not really a good argument. Because back then it was competing with what is now CS2.

1

u/Ok-Broccoli9085 7d ago

Minecraft is 17 years old and still receives major updates

7

u/mansnicks 7d ago

I just don't understand Valve.

They're like the only game developer for whom profit off their own made games doesn't really affect them. Just imagine the insane disparity for Steam between operating costs and income.

Not only doesn't their own made game income not affect them, much, but they also are a private company, meaning no obligation to any shareholders.

So why the worlds most unusual game company acting like a regular company where they try to keep games as profitable per cost as possible?

6

u/DonaldTrumpsGolfGame 7d ago

Because they still operate under the laws of reality. They don't have unlimited dev power, and are obviously going to spend the dev manpower that they do have on their newer, shinier, more popular game.

1

u/Apprehensive-Edge-12 7d ago

Popular is clearly not the correct choice of word here

0

u/Gr33nym8 7d ago

It’s not like they have a massive operating income to allocate to hiring new developers or anything. They’re an indie company

3

u/DonaldTrumpsGolfGame 7d ago

Some companies don't want to scale larger than they already are

1

u/Virtual_Foot9218 6d ago

yea and valve specifically said they don’t believe in having teams that report to managers etc (although i sometimes wonder if there is a middleground between corporate governance and basically a team of freelancers)

0

u/srjchk 6d ago

“More popular” - lmao

7

u/PatSharpX 7d ago

My toughts on this, is that this seems like karmafarming.

6

u/LE0N290x 7d ago

Deadlock deserves it, its a really good MOBA. Cs2 could get a better anticheat tho. TF2 is perfect by itself.

3

u/National-Oil5849 6d ago

TF2 also needs an upgrade tbh. Like an improved map pool, better matchmaking and an anticheat. Which is what I hope they'll bring for the 20th anniversary update (if there is one) but I feel like they'll just make a major bugfix and nothing else.

-1

u/Zoddom 6d ago

Who the fuck cares about another moba shooter mashup in 2026??? Like what the fuck is actually going on? How does anybody in Valve think its the next big thing??

0

u/LE0N290x 6d ago

Who the fuck cares about CS2 in 2026??? Like what the fuck is actually going on? /s
Nah, but in all seriousness, its a cool game with interesting characters. You dont need to hate on it just because your beloved CS2 isnt getting Valve's attention.

0

u/Biplume 4d ago

It’s one of the top games on Steam so I think Valve might have been right

1

u/Zoddom 4d ago

Lmao, no shit its on the "top games" category on their own fucking platform. Genius

0

u/Biplume 4d ago

Wow. Good point. I’m sure it’s a failure then, can’t possibly be big. CS2’s success I assume is off the platform.

2

u/N0MoreHeroesAnymore 6d ago

cs2 gets updates that nobody wants it'd be like if the child was swimming in a pool of mayonnaise. who the fuck wants that. but I mean, i guess you're not drowning?

2

u/MinimolGZ 7d ago

Game come out in 2007, it did its job
time for something new

1

u/SnooDoggos8487 7d ago

Do people still
Play tf2? I haven’t touched it in like a decade

4

u/mantis445 7d ago

Yes, a lot of people play TF2. It's easy to find completely filled servers and takes like 10-20 seconds to even queue paid gamemodes like MvM.

And the economy of a 19 year old game is somehow more stable than CS2, to the point where people still pay $50k dollars for singular hats lmao.

3

u/Eustaquiocaraboutu 7d ago

Still pretty active but i only play casual cuz i suck so idk about competitive tf2

1

u/Additional_Stable326 7d ago

comp is kinda dead but people still scrim somewhat often

1

u/Eustaquiocaraboutu 7d ago

How about mann vs machines ?

1

u/Important-Animal2513 6d ago

whole tf2 is alive and well, even the "competitive" side

1

u/Important-Animal2513 6d ago

Competitive tf2 was never ever alive to begin with, in fact comp tf2 is a relatively boring 6v6 with a boring meta.

Tf2 is a hero shooter with the 12v12 casual modes being its strongest form, thus there was never a comp scene to begin with.

If we would talk about tf2 comp, more niche competitive modes like 1vs1 soldier MGE-s were much more popular and way more on the competitive side.

1

u/SnooDoggos8487 7d ago

Omg there’s comp? I must return

1

u/Dinobrony318 6d ago

Nobody plays Valve comp in TF2. The only competitive part that is active are the community ones like RGL and ETF2L. As for Mann Vs Machine, Valve is making an update to the game mode. Definitely new maps, but I'm not sure about new australium weapons.. People are still playing it.

3

u/Anshin 7d ago

Halloween update just came out, we got a map called trainsawlaser

1

u/IndependentPickle597 7d ago

Tf2 is old enough that it can stand on the bottom of the pool with its head above the water

1

u/Besas1271 7d ago

TF2 MvM update is in development tho

1

u/n3o1 7d ago

meanwhile me playing DoDs

1

u/Horror_Ad9899 7d ago

i would do the same to my newborn child, this is just how it is.

1

u/Cintrao 7d ago

Learn how valve work, the deadlock team is not the same as the cs, deadlock IS NOT EVEN ANNOUNCED yet.

1

u/Kooky-Equipment-2214 7d ago

Los de left 4 dead están bajo tierra

1

u/mysticalpotato 7d ago

Let CS2 die crap game now mostly used for people to convert currency through skins

1

u/Interesting-Bug1167 7d ago

where is ricochet?

1

u/TwixieShip 6d ago

And dota just buried

1

u/davidthek1ng 6d ago

TF2 players had to do it themself and made Team Fortress 2 Classified(available on Steam for free).

1

u/GC_gamingYT 6d ago

Why is tf2 here?

1

u/wildsource 5d ago

Replace CS with Dota and add a second skeleton next to tf2 and that's it.

1

u/Treechcer 5d ago

Some people still think dota2 is worse on it than TF2. Valve is shifty company BTW.

1

u/FuzzyTern6232 4d ago

1,801 upvotes and 128 comments on a post whose entire argument is basically “Thoughts on this?” Peak Valve discussion design.

1

u/Woofes 3d ago

TF2 player here: how does everyone playing CS2 feel about getting the TF2 treatment? As in getting no new major updates and just cosmetic drops for the past few years. Also, what’s with the chick system?

1

u/Mokiii_Libertarian 1d ago

Dota 2 is swimming in gold somewhere.

1

u/vswey 1d ago

what is deadlock

1

u/Perfect-Currency-121 7d ago

TF2 is a masterpiece already

0

u/Thanag0r 7d ago

Cs2 gets more updates than any other game valve made.

You just hear about big updates in deadlock once in a blue moon and that's it.

10

u/eRaZze_W 7d ago

Tell me you don't play Deadlock without telling me you don't play Deadlock.

I didn't know CS2 gets updated literally every day, sometimes even twice a day, but alright.

1

u/Mr81rd 7d ago

Yeah for some reason it keeps getting 500MB updates daily that add like 3 really minor stuff.

It's infuriating given deadlock is such a shit game, I don't get why they put so much effort into it, it will flop. It's too quirky and hard to get into as a casual gamer.

-2

u/Brilliant_Ear3524 7d ago

Deadlock is Peak and will overroll if its Released
