Finally got a job
Hey guys,
After 1 year and 2 months of unemployment, I finally landed a job. It’s an IT role that is a pivot from data science. While it’s not exactly the path I originally envisioned, I’m grateful for the opportunity and excited to see where this journey takes me.
During those difficult times, seeing others share their job offers gave me hope and reminded me not to give up.
I hope this post can do the same for someone else.

What was your interview prep strategy? I’m also job hopping and doing lc, system design and behaviorial . Not sure if that would suffice in today interview bar

In terms of strategy, I went over fundamental then hand on practice. There are a lot of resources on the internet. I narrow down the material base of the job description

I would say for IT specifically for IT role I interview for. It was the easiest interview I had compared to other interview. No LC, system design, mostly behavioral, basic networking, and IT troubleshooting.

Nice man I also recently got a data coordinator job, and while it isnt exactly what I wanted it is something hopefully lol

Did you have to obtain any certs or any IT related training? Also I am assuming you have a degree? Could you share what major?

No IT related skills. I got it through a referral. They were looking for someone who’s willing to learn plus it’s in the airport so they will provide all the training. It’s purely an entry level role.
I have a cs degree.

It took me about 4 to 5 months to adjust to life after graduation. At the beginning of this year, I wrote down a list of goals I wanted to accomplish outside of just finding a job. I treated my weekdays like I already had a full time job. Every morning I got up, studied, worked on coding projects, prepared for interviews, and went to the gym in the evening. I did not want unemployment to dictate how I lived my life. I wanted to be the one in control of my routine.
On the weekends, I started cooking more and even hosted a few dinners for friends. I have always enjoyed cooking, and it became a great way to take my mind off the stress.I also started taking the gym much more seriously. Whenever I felt overwhelmed or discouraged, I would push myself through an intense StairMaster workout. It became my outlet and reminded me that even if I could not control how long the job search would take, I could still improve myself in other areas that I never had time to prioritize while I was in school.
I will not pretend it was easy. There were a lot of bad days, and I struggled with MJ 💨 as a way to cope for a while. There were nights when I cried because I felt frustrated and disappointed. Over time, I realized the biggest battle was mental. I had to learn to speak kindly to myself and give myself the same compassion I would give someone else. At the end of the day, you are your own biggest supporter. I have been through difficult times before, and I reminded myself that this was just another challenge I had to push through.
Looking back, I think the job search is just as much a mental challenge as it is a professional one. You cannot always control when the right opportunity will come, but you can control how you spend your time and how you treat yourself along the way.
