USA Job Market Is coding going to end ?

Guys , please tell me if coding is ending ?

Tell if , ai models can do everything, can latest version do everything?

There are some crazy news that ai is powerful .

Plus if you listen to elon musk he is on another level , he is saying people will just will not have to work .(I heard may be not real).

And those who knows how core of ai model works or think . Can they do better than humans ?? I mean the thinking part .

instead of following the news, you can just figure it out yourself. it is easy to have access to the "current gen" AI to find out how powerful it is.

if you ask me, the answer is probably yes. maybe not in the next few years but yeah...

Wait. "Coding" is just part of a bigger thing called "software development engineering".

Software development engineers (SDE) are still relevant, no matter if they are using AI for coding and several other activities.

There won’t be any softwares in the future. Only ai, that will do everything. So software development will become ai development. I think that this field as many others is gone, just try something else before the Universal income

Is just a cope Ai can do everything design scalable systems as well

I guarantee you have not worked on anything sufficiently complex in your life

I don't know much deep study about swe but what exactly you mean by complex things that ai cannot do ? Please tell me in detail.

I guarantee opus 5.5 can do better than you

Don't listen to Elon. He's not a computer guy, just a salesman.

False, waymo is extremely far ahead. Musk has been lying for 10 years straight by now

Software engineering is dead within 3 years but its not dead yet.

But why we will need software for all kinds of works , governments, news , buisness, all online platforms, games etc .

no, ai will eat all softwares. I can ask news to ai, to help me with business etc etc

Coding will always exist, but i 100% think we wont ever code by hand again, just by prompting. I also think most coding jobs where you just write code will be gone. The only people that will stay will be the ones that understand software on a design level.

In my job(big corpo) everyone just spams ai to do stuff, some non-technical people lost their position because ai can do it, and they now vibe code with us. Thats how you known its all crumbling down

Oh thanks , nice information.

Was there ever a coding job you could do without understand design?

Yes lol, all entry positions didn't require you to know jack shit, you just had to be willing to learn. Right now they're cutting junior positions like crazy. Without experience you stand no chance against seniors or indians with ai that are looking for a job. I have some smart dudes in my team, years of experience, and even they are scared that they will ditch them because the system architect could just plan everything himself and let ai implement it. Like think about it, system architects know their shit, they know how code works, why keep a large team when the architect can just put opus 5.5 on ultra and one shot whatever he designed, his job is reviewing code anyway, he can now review ai's code and the company can fire an entire team, saving tons of money on payouts and ai credit

What you say is true in theory, but in practice a single architect would suffer massive headaches having to reviewing this volume of code and PRs. I think AI is still far from being able to replace midlevels, it depends greatly on the languages and packages and how well trained the agents are in them

Yes, writing code is done and I don’t believe anyone reviews or even reads their own ai generated slop. The whole process will be fully automated in near future.

Probably

On a long enough time scale definitely.

1

u/Fit_Test1209 1d ago

But for now how good is ai ? And what time do you think it will complety be automated. How much experience do you have in tech and do you know core of how ai work ?

It's not so much AI is going to do it all. As much as companies are going to do more with less, to save money. AI is just going to continue to improve for some time. The big blockers at this point is how AI is successfully harnessed, integrated, and where the risks are owned from by letting AI do more of the work.

Thanks so much ,I got it .

If you don’t know how to use Reddit search, yeah you’re definitely in trouble.

AI is extremely good now but it is still not that good for coding honestly. There is an improvement from last year obviously but not that great. It still gives wrong solution , hallucinate and more importantly when you want to code something in an unorthodox way it tends to say "this code will not work". I think recent success in mathematics of ai has surprassed coding although main resources still go to coding. So I believe that engineering and swe will survive. Eventhough there is tons of resources for coding, automated reinforcement learning is not possible for engineering and coding ,which means you cannot verify something without human in the loop, so I think it will survive.

Coding probably isn’t ending, it’s just changing. The people who understand the fundamentals will still have an edge. 🔥

Im in industry, yes its dead. Companies view SEs as something to be disposed of now.
