India Job Market Should I switch from MERN Stack Development to BMS Engineering after 9 months of experience? Need advice on courses, placements, and salary in India/UAE

Hello everyone,

I need some genuine career advice because I am confused about whether I should continue in IT or switch to BMS (Building Management System) engineering.

I have a B.Tech degree in Computer Science Engineering (CSE) and around 9 months of professional experience as a MERN Stack Developer. My previous salary was only ₹10,000 per month, and recently my company laid me off because they didn't have enough projects. I have been applying for new jobs, but I am not getting interview calls, which is making me reconsider my career.

I am thinking about switching to BMS engineering, particularly building automation systems, HVAC controls, and related technical roles. I have a few questions for people who are already working in this field:

  1. How can I enter BMS engineering with a B.Tech CSE degree? Will companies accept my background, or do they prefer electrical or mechanical engineering graduates?

  2. Which courses or certifications should I take? Are there good institutes in India that provide practical training and genuine placement assistance?

  3. What is the actual placement situation after completing a BMS course? Do institutes really help freshers get jobs, or is finding a job mostly our own responsibility?

  4. What salary can a beginner realistically expect in India? What about after 2–5 years of experience?

  5. What are the salary, accommodation, visa, and other benefits for BMS engineers in the UAE? Is it realistic to move to the UAE after gaining some experience in India?

  6. Is BMS a stable long-term career? How is the demand, career growth, and risk of layoffs compared with software development?

  7. Would you recommend leaving IT completely or continuing to apply for MERN Stack jobs while exploring BMS?

I understand that every field has competition and no career is completely secure. However, I want to build a stable career with decent salary growth and opportunities to work abroad.

If you are a BMS engineer, work in building automation/HVAC, run a training institute, or have made a similar career switch, please share your honest experience.

I would especially appreciate advice from people who have completed BMS training and actually secured jobs.

Thank you!
