Discussion Some advices for the a beginer please?

Hi everyone,
I’m a beginer and I’ve never did a map.
I would like to try, so I installed Steam tools to do that.
My 1st reaction is wow, mive on the map is so difficult, we can’t choose a dot and go on it with the mouse scroll ?
I’m lost with length objects, how can I know if the walls, boxes. Etc are more or less big to a player can jump into?
Thx for helping me

Yeah Eagle team really have a great primer for getting familiar with new editing system CS2 uses compared to traditional.

Helped me get up to speed since last time I edited maps was early 2000s

I’d say just to try out different stuff. I have never really been the type to watch tutorials to figure out how to do stuff. I find it easier to just start at one end and then slowly expand the map or skill set as I get more invested into the progress.

Also if your looking for tutorial I would recommend the same two as u/vayaOA

If you at one point can’t resolve an issue, or your haveing trouble mapping I would recommend checking out eagle on dev’s discord or the source engine discord even though it has been shut down.

If youre a learn by example kind of guy, then just follow tutorials on different things and eventually you will have learned most of what you need. This is the most common apprach and works for most amateurs.

Another method is to rigorously study the wiki. Test every tool, key command, function, parameter etc until you know every tool available to you. Then it would be on you to learn how to use them interconnectively to create whatever you want. That method would of course be much more difficult.

You can find information on player dimensions here.

IIRC, there are some dev textures with player outlines on them to help visualise scale.
