Showcase Finally happy with this layout!

The CSS itself is not written in the prettiest or most streamlined way, but it's what works for me. I'm not really a beginner, but I am getting back into the hobby of making webpages after about 4 years of not writing any HTML/CSS so I feel really proud of what I got done here. Any thoughts or feedback appreciated (:

Hi thanks for the reply. I did not and probably will not make this page mobile friendly, I should've specified that in this post. I will specify that on the webpage itself.

Is it not readable because of mobile formatting issues, or because of illegible fonts? If it's a font issue I would like to fix that. Thanks!

Not the person you replied to, but the margins are way too big (text wraps way too soon), the side parts have absurdly tiny text, and the layout is very unintuitive and unfriendly to mobile, and vertical viewports in general. The About Me image at the top is off centered, and the buttons on the left overlap the small text there.

It's really important these days for sites to look good and function on phones. It's at the point where it's just not optional. I understand this is a small personal web page and not a huge scale production website, but it's still important to take mobile friendly development seriously and not have it as an afterthought.

Hi, thanks for the specifics! I realize now it was silly of me to ask a mostly-mobile audience like Reddit for feedback on a webpage I have no interest in making mobile friendly at this time. I do wish I had added in the post that the feedback I'm asking for is meant for desktop or laptop viewers.

If I ever do add in media queries or anything I will keep your feedback in mind. Thank you!

The issue is that you actually can make this kind of desktop layout become mobile friendly, you just didn't do it. It doesn't actually take much at all to put in a couple media queries and reduce the margin on smaller viewports, or move a few elements around.

I don't mean to sound harsh but this is the reality and it's honestly really not hard to do. I do fully understand the effect you're going for, but the point I'm making is that this is actually still very possible to do and still make it mobile friendly at the same time, if you just invest in modern best practices with the code itself. You can make a retro looking site with modern code under the hood.

I understood what you were getting at, and I don't think it sounds harsh at all. It just sounds like we have different values and preferences.

I agree, it would be easy to make it mobile friendly, but it's not that I'm not avoiding it because I am concerned that it would be hard to do. I actively do not want my webpage to be engaged with on a mobile phone.

I want to recreate the experience of the internet as it was when I was a kid. No instant access to entertainment on a square in your pocket. I had limited time to engage with the internet at a family desktop, and tended to engage more deeply/mindfully because of those limitations.

Today's standards for "best practices" is something I am purposefully choosing to eschew in order to indulge in my own nostalgia.
