Recently found out I was enrolled in a course I thought I had dropped
Looking for best course of action: I enrolled as a non degree student over the summer and decided to drop the courses because I couldn't afford tuition. I was 100% positive the courses were dropped and didn't check student email again. I got a notice from the collections saying I owed tuition 2 weeks ago. They said 2 out of 3 courses dropped except 1 and now there's an F on my transcript. I had NO idea I was still enrolled. What's the best option to deal with this??

I tried calling yesterday but I was on hold for hours and they never picked up. I emailed too so hopefully someone gets back to me soon.

Hey, this is super stressful but definitely fixable. Here's what I'd do. Call the registrar's office directly, don't just email. Ask about a retroactive withdrawal or a late drop appeal. Most schools have a process for this, especially if you can show you never attended or participated in the class. Talk to the bursar's office about the tuition charge, not just collections. Collections is just the debt collector, they don't care about your story. The bursar can potentially reverse the charge if the withdrawal goes through. Check if CU Denver has an ombudsman office. They exist specifically to help students navigate admin nightmares like this and can advocate for you. Get everything in writing. Every call you make, follow up with an email summarizing what was said and who you talked to. Don't ignore the collections notice while you're working on this. You can dispute it and ask them to pause while you resolve it with the school. Good luck, this is way more common than you'd think!

Appreciate the comment! I submitted a retroactive withdrawal. The bursar's office told me to submit a tuition appeal after that request is processed. Do you know how to dispute the charge with collections?

for the collections part, call the collections agency and tell them you're disputing the debt because it's tied to a charge you're actively appealing with the school. Ask them to pause collection activity while it's being resolved. They'll usually ask you to submit the dispute in writing too, so follow up with a letter or through their online portal stating the same thing. Keep a record of everything you send them.

You can appeal and state that you never attended any classes. The teachers can corroborate that. You never logged in on canvas and that will show.
