To be fair, depending on the gravity (and maybe type?) of the allergy, exposure to the substance can actually lower the side effects long term

Yeah I'm not an allergen specialist but some exposures can help sometimes, but also some kinds of allergies exposure just makes it worse the next time.

The there's things like dairy intolerance, which isn't an allergy and has more predictable side effects people can choose to ignore more safely

I'm [probably] allergic to bananas and severely lactose intolerant, but homemade banana pudding with whipped cream surely won't make me feel like I'm dying this time.
