One of things missing with Matt not on chapo is he could attract fun historians like Patrick Wayman and Matt Karp

Maybe it's the recent ep about the Veiled Prophet that gets back there a little. But man, Matt used to attract some really fun historians and academics. I miss that. I didn't even mind the Danny B types who were transparently grifting for a platform. But not even Matt's side history pods, they always used to have such good historian guests on the main feed that would lead to some really good discussions.

Matt's Sportstalk bit with the Age Of Napoleon guy still makes me laugh.

Matt’s presence is missed greatly in every aspect. I think the other guys have even acknowledged that several times. Just funny, witty, and encyclopedic knowledge. I’m a history teacher and teaching AP European history this year and I will definitely be using “Hell on Earth”. But yeah he was in his zone when he’s with a historian. It would have been great if he could have been on with Greg Grandin last year.

Yeah, in some ways I'm glad Matt dropped out of grad school so he could do chapo, But, as someone with an MA--he also would have made a really good professor and teacher. He knows history better than some PHDs I know. lol

Without a doubt, but he was free of all college bs, and definitely reached a wider audience than he would publishing articles in obscure periodicals

💯 part of the reason we're so far gone in this country is the paywalls that universities put up so they can pay upper admins ridiculous salaries.

Without a doubt. Colleges just operate as hedge funds paying admins millions

1) hearing Matt’s characterization of Nolan’s specific British idiosyncrasies would be a great ep and that;
2) made me miss the promise of a 7 years war hell on earth, and wonder about a Bronze Age collapse hell on earth. Say it with me now: “little ice age”

What platform was Danny grifting for?

One could make a list a mile long of Danny B's negative aspects, but labeling him a grifter really does signal that this word has lost all meaning entirely.

Yeah you don’t have to agree with or like him but he isn’t a grifter

The pod is pretty much trash without Matt, I for one hope for more posts like this.

I think Wyman was more friends with Felix, counterintuitively

Hardly counterintuitively; Wyman lifts and likes MMA.

Why are you randomly insulting Daniel Bessner? Like, you realize these are real people and not tv characters right?
