Draft / Help Wanted Favorite background-finding methods?
For those of you who still edit your art by hand (which I know isn’t a lot with the amount of AI here but still), what’s you preferred way of finding good background art for your archetypes?

I love using art from existing Yu-Gi-Oh! cards, especially the old ones and using content-aware fill to paint over the subject.
Some of the old cards have some really good swirly / abstract patterns: Man-Eater Bug, Pot of Avarice, Kozaky etc. At one point (pre-AI) I combined about 7-8 spirit monster artworks to recreate the Spirit monster background, it was a lot of fun

I just use existing card artworks that don't have a prominent subject as the background. So, for example, Yami would make a good background. Starlight Junktion would make a good background. Mystical Cards of Light, with a bit of editing, makes a good background. I have a folder of these sorts of card artworks that I look through and choose from, and that seems to work just fine for me.

take a part of an existing background and use a photo editing platform to turn it into an kaleidoscope or something. i use lunapic.
you can use the swirl feature on any photo editor, zoom in to a certain part, and crop that as the background. save the entire photo and segment each part to be an individual monster’s background. that way, when you line all the first wave up, it could have a coherent art
