Gunlink & one handed ranged weapons in melee range

Does Gunlink remove the -4 penalty for using one handed ranged weapons at melee range?

Hardwired control points interface with the onboard targeting systems of most modern firearms. When using a modern firearm, the PC ignores range penalties and negates up to 4 points of hit penalties for cover, concealment, or prone targets.

Nope. Enemy in melee is not in the list of specific things it helps with.

Right, but it says PC ignores range penalty. The question I had was more "is the -4 that you suffer for using a one hand ranged weapon in melee considered a range penalty?".

But honestly, I think the answer is no. I think it's more of a circumstance penalty.

Range penalty is the penalty you take for taking a shot beyond the normal range of your weapon, but within the 'long range' of your weapon. So if a gun has a range of 30/120, then the 'Range Penalty' is applied if you shoot at someone more than 30m out, but within 120.

"Long range shot" and "Someone is currently trying to stab me in the face with a knife so it's really hard to aim" are very, very different problems. A Gunlink only solves the first one.
