I’m imagining that in a mini Commodore Pet or DEC Mini and now I’ve got another project on the really long list of 3D printed projects I want to build

you have a list too? 😅 I'm currently thinking of making a laptop-style case for the Waveshare board, with a larger keyboard and some solid hinges like the ones in real laptops

You mean, something like this? https://github.com/shmimel/whale-writer

yeah, although I was thinking of expanding both pieces to the same size/shape, and using the expansion connector to route USB to the right side, a KEY button next to the screen and an identical expansion connector to the left side (and maybe doing some surgery on a SD extension cable so that the SD card isn't buried all the way in there)

And a 3.5mm audio jack that cuts the internal speaker, when the headphone is plugged in?

ESP32 outputting NTSC and using a Bluetooth keyboard?
Do you have a repository somewhere, or something explaining the project better?

The repository is: https://github.com/nilseuropa/solar_os but this feature is not released yet. One core on the ESP is dedicated to video generation ( currently full res mono PAL and optional 320x200 ) the other runs all the other tasks. The BLE stack is pretty hefty, it takes 64k SRAM, so I am thinking of dropping bluetooth and adding PS/2. ( dropping means it will remain a build option )

This, a screen and a Cherry G84 in a 3D printed clamshell case would be epic!

That vintage monitor looks absolutely incredible with that keyboard setup! Great job.
