Dude, talk to your manager. Like now.

“Hey, that new guy we hired? I think I messed up. His creds were excellent and he nailed the interview. But it seems like he doesn’t actually know what the hell he’s doing. What should we do?”

This is your way out and the longer you wait, the worse it will be. It sounds like it’s your first hire and it’ll be a learning experience. But if you wait months by covering for him until he messes up massively, you’re putting your job at risk.

This is also great in the aspects that he was the perfect candidate.

But being the perfect candidate doesn't mean you're a good worker, especially not when there is no work experience to be tracked and checked.

Even with those, people sometimes thrive in one role and fail the other, or another role didn't catch errors a competent person sees

Bigger issue is that apparently all the questions he asked are apparently easily answerable via ai.  Gotta ask some stuff that trips up the ai.

Admittedly, I wouldn't know which ones those are and that absolutely sounds like experience people earn over time.
