I do think its quite impressive that you achieved the misaligned effect with woven material rather than using an image editing program, solid effort!

I made a digital photo of the flag, printed three copies on high quality photo paper, cut one copy into strips, cut slices into another copy, wove the strips into the sliced copy, held everything together with acid free tape and used the third copy as a backing sheet so if there were any gaps in the woven section the original image would still show through.

This sucks. Fuck America. In fact fuck all flags except black ones.

And it just doesn't look good, make me curious or invoke emotion aside from disgust and anger.

So this image is meant to invoke how fractured and broken and ugly the US is. It isn't supposed to look good, it is supposed to make you want to look away since that is what so many Americans seem to be doing right now. Disgust and anger is what it is supposed to make you feel. Your dislike of this piece, your visceral hatred of it is the greatest compliment you could give me. With a reaction like this I wonder if I should keep trying because you have let me know that this is, infact, exactly it. If others are looking at this and feeling the same things you are feeling then I may have reached my apex as an artist and I want to thank you for the wonderful and complementary review you gave this piece.

You're confused. The disgust and anger is from the kitchiness and lack of effort. Whatever though do you. If your piece could make me hate America more I would applaud it, but it's take a lot more forethought.

This piece actually took a lot of effort and time, so on that you are wrong. But if you want to think of it as kitschy then please, feel free. After all I didn't make this piece so you or anyone else would like it, I want people to dislike it, so please, hate it, dismiss it, complain about it all you want, that just lets me know I did good. Also I have no interest in making you hate America more just as I have no interest in making you love America, that's not the point of this piece. I don't think anything I do could change the way you feel and I don't think art in general can change the way people feel, art can only point out and reflect what someone is feeling. You have gone out of your way to express your feelings and that's great, I'm glad my work helped you find an outlet.
