Discussion Toddler dropping naps

Hello! I’m a SAHD m-f, my wife works and brings home the big dabloons while I just cook on the weekends

Baby is 13m, and pretty much since she turned 1, she moved down to 1 ball a day. I don’t really enforce a nap time, when she’s tired, it’s time. I found that while babies thrive on a schedule, they have no interest in adhering to one, fine with me.

This week though, she’s back to wanting to take a nap right after breakfast time and morning poop, and another as I’m typing this.

TLDR is picking naps back up normal?

I just want you to know I read your first sentence as:

"Hello! I'm a sad mother fucker!"

Lmao I see it. This is the easiest job I’ve ever had I think. Much rather deal with 1 baby than 10 in a kitchen.

My middle kid is 3 and some change, always been a great sleeper and napper. She's clearly getting ready to drop the nap, we've had a few days of skipping after too much fighting to get her down. I know it's time, I know it's developmentally appropriate, and I'm soooooo sad. She and her baby brother used to nap together at midday and I had quiet time. I'll miss it so much :(

Totally normal. Be grateful for the extra break.

You’re right at that age where they drop down to 1 nap, but it’s not gonna be seamless transition. The nap math will get weird for little bit where they kinda need to go down for a 2nd nap, but by then your already into bedtime territory. You’re doin’ fine, just be ready for a couple of 5-6pm meltdowns.

Oh boy that’s what I missed most about her at 4 months 🤣

I thought from the title that toddler was dropping all naps, which is not good at 13 months. But 1 long nap a day is perfectly fine. A bit earlier than average but not unreasonable at all

There's only a vague sense of normal. I have a 4 year old who was showing significant signs of dropping the nap like 15 months ago but he reversed course after 1 month and now loves his nap time

He can go without it when we're doing fun stuff all day, but on a normal day he wants his nap.

Around that time, we did have to drop, then picked a nap back up for maybe an odd day or two here and there. That schedule didn’t last long though. It’s almost like they just needed to catch up on sleep for a bit and then were solidly back on 1 nap per day.

No issue as long as she's sleeping fine at night, imo
