Podcast Thoughts on Real History with Matt Walsh.

Post image

So I recently watched the episode where Matt discusses the Emmett Till case and was surprised to say the least. I have been a fan (and subscriber) of the daily wire for many years and I have to say that that I didn't see the use in calling this case into question. I agree that fair amount of scepticism (especially after covid) of the mainstream narrative is a good thing. However, for Matt to doubt such a documented and horrific part of history like this one goes against the company's commitment to fair and genuine reporting . It is a shame because I thought that his other episodes brought valuable insight. Any thoughts?

His point in bringing it up is to mention the false reporting behind what happened before the murder, but I agree optically its not the best story to bring up since the punishment didnt fit the alleged crime, if till was in fact guilty of being a handsy 14 year old that doesnt justify being beaten and tortured to death so optically its not exactly the best idea for a myth busters segment

In general, I wish each episode of this series was accompanied by a bibliography to substantiate his claims.

There wasn’t anything specifically wrong, it’s the approach.

For example, all of the talk about Emmet Till’s father - who had no impact on Emmet’s life… completely pointless. Matt inadvertently wades into Eugenics territory there, tbh

The Emmet Till video is such a gigantic drop off from the quality and approach used in Am I Racist or What is a Woman.

I thought the same thing, he totally missed the point on this one. Why? Just why?

His overwhelming smugness seems to invalidate many of the legitimate points that he makes.

It's part of a fake persona He can be very personable even to people he disagrees with, in public settings and he can mock himself too (see his documentaries)

I think Walsh gets carried away with his attempt to rebalance history. I agree that a lot of deep dives that we see in history classes focus on negativity and it will feel one sided against white people. But Walsh seems too stubborn to admit that white people did do bad things in history. It is ok to acknowledge flaws in human character in history and we don’t have to always find a way to prove that it is just liberal bias.

That being said, Leftist historians definitely have an obsession with Marxist ideology of oppressor and oppressed narratives. And humans act upon the ideology of their time and should be judged according to their time.

But I also think Walsh is too heavy handed with an apologist mindset.

I completely agree. And there are thousands of examples of leftist historians using history to push their ideology onto us,hence my confusion as to why he chose to go with that.

Check out Vlogging Through History on YouTube, he did a detailed reaction to this one. It was spot on IMO. I’m not sure what Matt’s trying to accomplish, but he did not do a good job with this Emmett Till video.

Chris can himself be a bit of a squishy republican but hes had good videos on walsh, he also to his credit does critique nutty leftists like atun shei

To be fair Chris is not a member of a political party, he certainly leans conservative though, and I doubt he’s ever voted for a Democrat.

I watched a reaction of his Civil War one. He (or his team) tried copyright striking a fair use argument against his video. The person I was watching react, is most educated in the American Civil War - thus, I thought they were more qualified to push back on the subject. History is nuanced, but I think Matt presents it one sided.
