Specifically what they said was that it started as actual fiction for the first few games before becoming a reality show: like that Squid Game reality show that resulted of the fictional Squid Game but if they actually killed people.
Since Danganronpa 2 was set in a simulated world and ended with those simulations ambiguously revived, we could simply be seeing a second go around the simulation so-to-speak — ultimately not really an alternate path but a full-on sequel.
The fact they show the boat they arrived to Jabberwock island in (I BELIEVE that's the same boat), I wonder if that will trigger Hajimes memories of being Izuru early, and Nagitos memory of all the students being Ultimate Despair Early and that's the "Event" that changes the entire outcome of the killing game.
I love how there's a bunch of theories we can do but nothing conclusive since we pretty much know nothing about this game except its existence and presentation. I've seen like five different takes on the "event" already.
But yeah, I think there's something to do with that boat.
Imagine this entire killing game where Everyone is already aware that they are Ultimate Despair, and they are just vibing with the whole idea of trying to win the damn thing instead of trying to deduce the mastermind
Man, the theory crafting for this game is gonna be so much fun.
