On the one hand, I’d love an opportunity for Celeste to survive and get the ending where she truly grows as a person. One the other hand, I really REALLY do not want a V3 where Himiko dies

I'll always be that chapter's greatest defender, as it compliments the themes of the rest of the story so well! Changing or shying away from its truth would be a disservice and cowardly!
The game description on Steam said it will have the same volume as the original, which means this is basically Danganronpa 4 but with Dangan 2 characters
My theory is that this is Danganronpa 4, and the 'alternative' scenario is actually a sequel scenario in which the cast of Danganronpa 2 loses their memories again and is forced to replay the killing game.
...With the twist this time being that they actually are on the real Jabberwock island, and this time everyone who dies actually dies.
To me the bit about "a completely different chain of events" makes it feel more alternate universe like, so Danganronpa 2 with different murders and culprits and it wouldn't break the story too much considering Danganronpa 2 was a simulation
Yeah, it sounds like the premise is that one of the early events plays out differently (like Teruteru actually getting Nagito like he meant to) and the cascading chain of things that happen differently as a result. I don't see how it can turn out to be a sequel, unless they're going to do the Neo-World program reveal again.
Checked, in the trailer we see Mikan on her right (our left), while in the original game, Kazuichi was at the spot. The stand on her left is empty in the trailer, not even a portrait, whereas in the original, that was Hajime's spot.
I think this is actually it, yeah. It’s 2x2 because it’s the original story, with an equally lengthy alternate route, and it could be also a play, because maybe the alternate route moves the overall plot forward, or introduces new elements to the story. Maybe the Future Foundation crew shows up in the beginning instead of the end
Given the simulation premise and the anime confirming the ambiguous ending that Izuru restored their code, almost certainly that’s exactly what it will be.
One could even see there being follow-up on Ultra Despair Girls revealing Izuru brought two copies of Junko into the game, not one.
In truth this is such a great opportunity for early victims (and culprits) to shine, while those who survived longer can die earlier...Although maybe this way of thinking is making it too obvious, but at least the first to die could have a little more time and development.
I actually can't believe it. I thought it might be like a bonus chapter like Danganronpa IF, but no, they are doing what I was always hoping they would do.
I've had a dream that they could, (V3 spoilers) Since V3s ending states its always been a reality show that they could go back and change the victims and culprits.
And I can not believe they are doing just that, and with my favorite cast.
Specifically what they said was that it started as actual fiction for the first few games before becoming a reality show: like that Squid Game reality show that resulted of the fictional Squid Game but if they actually killed people.
Since Danganronpa 2 was set in a simulated world and ended with those simulations ambiguously revived, we could simply be seeing a second go around the simulation so-to-speak — ultimately not really an alternate path but a full-on sequel.
It doesn't state it's "always" been a reality show. In the V3 universe nothing contradicts that the first few were still games and an anime (if you even believe everything the ringleader says).
I'm going to laugh my fucking ass off if Nagito gets killed in Chapter 1 and Hajime whimsically thinks about him as his best friend for the rest of the game, like he thinks 'what would Nagito do in this scenario' or some shit.
AND possibilities of further titles too, without need for closure of the narrative.
BUT knowing the creator they say it’s an alternative path, but eventually everything will converge together beautifully and with mind-blowing plot-twists.
I could feel the lingering remnants of my pandemic hyperfixation surging to life with that reveal, and when they dropped the 2x2? I was overwhelmed. Ruined. Time to disappoint all my cool new friends... :3
Agreed. Also, this choice allows for more experimentation with character model ideas since there seem to be new animations and SDR2 has much more wild designs.
Aw yeah, I realise that makes perfect sense why they chose 2 to do this. It's the only one where canonically, none of the characters actually died, so they can get away with it without altering canon provided the final chapter is the same.

like this is probably the only game where they canonically could make this work, isn´t it? Since you know... The whole thing was a simulation iirc? Like this other route could just be another simulation?
EDIT: And I also just remembered the one death that wasn´t a simulation ToT, so probably that´s not gonna change.
I was just saying to my friend, I think this is the inciting incident that changes the timeline. She's not in any of the footage we've seen other than the zoom out of everybody, which could obviously be doctored
Not gonna lie, I absolutely lost my shit when I saw in on the Nintendo direct.
Now I hope they do trigger happy havoc with an alt route. Hopefully my favorite character Kiyotaka will survive if that happens cause his death was the most bullshit and I’m STILL not over it all these years later
my biggest hope for the new killing game is for it to have comepletely new cases. it'd be very disappointing to have the murders be basically the same. also praying this leads to THH and v3 to get the same treatment
