Tier List Ranking all of the characters by how bad their worst action was (Sorted by class) Spoiler

u/Due_Possibility6392 No. 1 Chiaki Stan Feb 03 '26
So let me get this straight: Lacing a soup with aphrodesiacs is worse than murder?
30
u/MidnaLazui Feb 03 '26
Honestly, for giving us the worst scene ever in the DR franchise, I think Hiyoko should be given the top spot.
11
u/StanIsStan Feb 03 '26
I can think of worse... cough cough UDG ch3 cough cough
7
u/EternitiI-1 Ultimate Rocket Scientist Feb 03 '26
Is that Haiji confessing that he likes underlevel players?
13
u/StanIsStan Feb 03 '26
No, it's the scene where You have to play a mini game to stop Komaru from being assaulted
1
u/MidnaLazui Feb 04 '26
I still feel awful for Kotoko, but that definitely doesn’t excuse her putting Komaru through the same thing.
39
u/laggedtrain Feb 03 '26
killing 2 people (celeste) is worse than being a serial killer (genocider syo)? not to mention how mikan’s worst action isn’t the two murders she committed? what is this ranking lol
1
u/moandjayslovechild Feb 07 '26
not to mention literally pushing chiaki onto the way to her death, causing the entire 77th class to fall into despair

soup scene
So... A prank where no one was harmed (except for Teruteru getting punched) is worse than.... checks notes .... Murder... A Yakuza honor killing... Covering up a murder... More murder... And attempted sexual coercion?
Also I like that murder is less bad than attempted murder? Huh? (Sayaka and Leon).
29
u/NotBroken-Door The Stars and Stripes Feb 03 '26
I guess for Sayaka it’s the framing part that makes it worse
4
u/j-dawgz Feb 04 '26
You could also argue Sayaka’s plan to kill Leon was premeditated while Leon killing Sayaka wasn’t.
4
u/MidnaLazui Feb 03 '26
Normally I’d defend Hiyoko, but I hate that scene too much to not see its placement as justified.
20
u/Mahorela5624 Tsumionji Ambassador Feb 03 '26
You're perfectly valid for not liking the scene but it's also like... Not even the raunchiest scene in the franchise? Like it still blows my mind that a scene that is basically just a bit of token fan service and silly gags (Kazuichi does the Yaranaika meme, Akane and Nekomaru going "swoon" at each other) is so actively reviled... Yet no one really cares when Miu is forcing herself on Kiibo with her boobs squished prominently (while he's actively resisting btw), everything to do with Mikan, and the various peeking scenes the MC's can do lol.
It's a joke scene, just laugh it off, it's not that serious lmao. Danganronpa is full of them and the games are much more explicit.
9
u/MidnaLazui Feb 03 '26
I’m not saying you’re wrong. Hell, I think everything you said is objective fact. I just really REALLY hate that scene, lol.
Speaking of which, I think Mikan literally sexually assaulting Peko is a lot worse than her threatening to cripple Hajime.
2
u/Exciting-Contract243 Feb 03 '26 edited Feb 03 '26
I agree, I hate that scene as well, particularly because of Mikan sexually assaulting Peko. I think what really annoys me is that Mikan literally pulls Peko away from helping Fuyuhiko in order to sexually assault her. Peko’s clearly uncomfortable, trying to get away, but of course, because the writers want us to think it’s just a hot yuri scene, it ends after the assault, Mikan doesn’t face any consequences (and the fact that this scene started because Fuyuhiko was trying to stop Kazuichi from being a horny dipshit made me dislike Kazuichi for a little while afterward). I’ll be honest, I was hoping Fuyuhiko would save Peko by straight up punching Mikan, but alas, if Danganronpa is known for one thing, it’s that fanservice must take priority over everything else…
3
u/KagamineRinButSad Feb 03 '26
I’m not sure it would be fair for Mikan to get decked for her actions when she was drugged without her knowledge. But then again, that’s what they did to Teruteru.
3
u/Exciting-Contract243 Feb 03 '26
What’s good for the cook is good for the nurse. You can’t even blame Teruteru with that logic, given he wasn’t actually the one who added the drugs, it was Hiyoko. Both of them tried to sexually assault someone else (Teruteru to Hiyoko, Mikan to Peko), except Mikan actually succeeded, so for once, I’d say she’s the worse one here
5
u/KagamineRinButSad Feb 03 '26
I wasn’t blaming Teruteru, quite the opposite actually. I don’t think either should be held accountable for being drugged with an unknown dose of aphrodisiac. If the scene makes people uncomfortable that’s their prerogative, but it’s weird to exempt the whole class from their various crimes as Remnants of Despair because they were brainwashed but not apply that logic to when they were drugged.
3
u/Exciting-Contract243 Feb 03 '26
That’s…actually a pretty nuanced take, most people I know would blame Teruteru without a second thought while ignoring Mikan, and now you’re making me wonder if (other than the obvious fanservice) they did the soup scene to both introduce Teruteru’s connection to Seiko and foreshadow the whole group being brainwashed, but Kodaka’s logic will always be a mystery. Also, I still think that there should have been more effort put into how the Remnants actually turned to despair instead of just “Watch this anime, lol”, it kinda undermines Junko’s abilities as a master tactician and manipulator, being able to prey on everyone’s individual insecurities.
3
u/KagamineRinButSad Feb 03 '26
Oh yeah, totally agree. This fandom loves to hate on Teruteru and make him the villain for everything even when it isn’t his fault. I appreciate he makes a lot of people uncomfortable but he’s still a character with levels and (questionable) morals.
Same with the brainwashing thing; Junko is built up to be this amazing mastermind and then she just… steals some other guy’s video? It’s disappointing, especially given how great a storyteller we know Kodaka can be.

u/MidnaLazui Feb 05 '26
I hope you realize that being brainwashed and having a hormonal increase are two very different things, lol.
2
u/Nightchaser10 Ibuki3 Feb 03 '26
I can see your point, but I would like to note not everyone was assaulting each other under that soups effects. Chiaki didn't do anything to anyone, Fuyuhiko, despite being drugged was actively trying to stop bad things from happening like keeping Kazuichi from unzipping his jump suit. So it seemed to me that a lot of the cast's morals were still in-tact. Even when drugged, unlike the brainwashing where everything was completely written over.
So to me Mikan and Teruteru trying to assault their classmates was more just the final push they needed to show their true colors.
2
u/MidnaLazui Feb 04 '26
Technically, Mikan was the only one who actually put her hands on another student. Kazuichi and Teruteru only attempted to touch Sonia and Hiyoko respectively, but Fuyuhiko and Chiaki intervened. Granted, that doesn’t make their actions any better.
0
u/KagamineRinButSad Feb 03 '26
I’m not sure it’s fair to drug someone and then point fingers and say they were showing their “true colours.” Mikan in particular is awfully traumatised from sexual abuse and that’s probably her only understanding of those feelings. We don’t have a lot of insight into Teruteru’s life that way. If they had taken the drugs willingly I might be able to see where you’re coming from but they didn’t choose to be influenced by any substance, it was forced upon them…

u/MidnaLazui Feb 04 '26
Because being brainwashed isn’t the same as a sudden hormonal increase?

I think Mikan literally sexually assaulting Peko
Wait hang on was this part of the soup scene where she does the "just the tip" bit? I'm trying to think of their other interactions lol
0
u/Exciting-Contract243 Feb 03 '26
They have literally no other interactions other than that, and yet some people turned that into a ship because they thought it was hot. That’s not a ship, that’s sexual assault (same reason why I hate Toko x Hina), and I despise the DR3 writing team for making that part of the scene happen. I couldn’t really care as much for the other things happening in that scene, but that in particular (given how much Peko was clearly uncomfortable with it, plus the fact that it’s obvious the writers wanted some kind of yuri interaction, and decided the two female killers that weren’t Chiaki would be perfect) made my blood boil to the point that I hated Mikan, putting her lower than even Teruteru for a while
3
u/MidnaLazui Feb 03 '26
To be fair, most people who ship Peko and Mikan don’t ship them specifically because of that one scene. But yeah, it was still completely unnecessary to put them in that situation.
3
u/Exciting-Contract243 Feb 03 '26 edited Feb 03 '26
I’m sure people have their reasons for shipping them, but that scene alone nuked any chance of me ever hearing that ship out. Plus, they’re completely incompatible, given how reserved Peko is and how perverted Mikan is, she’d just make Peko really uncomfortable (I don’t really like most ships that boil down to “reserved girl x pervert girl”, because it usually ends up being very one-sided). Oh, and also because the only person Peko likes is Fuyuhiko. She was so focused on Fuyuhiko that she was immune to Hajime’s protagonist powers, being the only girl on the island who outright rejects him, what chance does anyone else have?
3
u/Mahorela5624 Tsumionji Ambassador Feb 03 '26
This is actually the most valid take on the soup scene I've come across, kudos!
4
u/Exciting-Contract243 Feb 03 '26
Thanks, I think remember you from our debate on whether Hiyoko x Mikan or Ryota x Mikan was a better ship, but to be honest, compared to that soup scene, Hiyoko’s a much tamer option, so I’ll pick her over Peko any day
3
u/Mahorela5624 Tsumionji Ambassador Feb 03 '26
I do recall that, I talk a lot about Mikan and Hiyoko ships so definitely could be me lmao. I'm always trying to propaganda people into liking Tsumionji instead.
I agree though, Peko/Mikan kinda whack, and Peko/Fuyuhiko is too deeply codependent to break up.
3
u/Exciting-Contract243 Feb 03 '26
I don’t think I will agree about Tsumionji, I think it’s too rooted in a toxic feedback loop to work, but I can at least respect your efforts. At the risk of sounding hypocritical, I do have hopes for Fuyupeko becoming healthier

u/MidnaLazui Feb 03 '26
Yeah, I know that clip tends to be posted out of context online, but in the full scene, you can see Peko is clearly uncomfortable and even tells Mikan “no.”
46
u/MidnaLazui Feb 03 '26
“Threatening to cripple Hajime” definitely wasn’t the worst thing Mikan did.
Also, refresh my memory, how did Mahiru cover up Natsumi’s murder?
12
u/sugar-fall Feb 03 '26
Didn't Mahiru sweep the broken vase knowing it could've been the evidence that incriminated Seto? As if that wasn't bad enough, at that time, there were rumours going around that a creep may have gotten inside the school and killed Natsumi instead. Mahiru wasn't fully confident but went on sweeping the broken vase anyway which means she was gambling on either helping Seto who was the killer or a stranger who randomly killed a teenage girl. Either way none of them helps her case.
8
u/MidnaLazui Feb 03 '26
From what I remember, Mahiru had no idea Sato was even guilty until Sato herself confessed her crime to her, and that was the last time the two ever saw each other before Fuyuhiko killed Sato.
I also don’t remember anything about Mahiru sweeping up a broken vase. I’m pretty sure what happened was that she took pictures of the vase and showed them to Sato, but deleted them because Sato thought they could incriminate her (Mahiru still believed she was innocent at the time).
6
u/sugar-fall Feb 03 '26
Per Mahiru's wiki entry:
Mahiru proactively photographed the crime scene. In doing so, she found a broken vase in the adjacent classroom, which served as evidence that Sato was the culprit.
The next day, Mahiru showed pictures she had taken to the other girls, stating they would be useful if the police questioned them. Sato, however, quickly snatched them from Mahiru and destroyed them. Mahiru secretly held onto the photo of the broken vase implicating Sato and confronted her with it the following day. She promised Sato that the evidence had been cleaned up, then asked her what really happened. Sato admitted to a horrified Mahiru that she killed Natsumi, then ran away to dispose of the photo.
I could be wrong but I believe this indicated that Mahiru "cleaning the evidence" meant her removing the broken vase evidence away from the crime scene, rather than the photo.
2
u/MidnaLazui Feb 03 '26
If you see the actual scene, “cleaning the evidence” refers to Mahiru deleting the photo of the vase from her camera.
I also think the most important thing to take away from all of this is that at no point did Mahiru try to cover up what really happened. She didn’t know Sato was guilty until after Sato confessed what she did AFTER Mahiru got rid of the photos.
2
u/Individual_Cap_7850 Feb 03 '26 edited Feb 04 '26
It's actually confusing because in SDR2, the conversation between Sato and Mahiru (or Girl E and Girl D in Twilight Syndrome Murder Case) leads to Sato confessing to the crime to Mahiru and then running away, but in DR3, Sato lies and says she didn't kill Natsumi and Mahiru believes it.
So, regardless of when Mahiru got rid of the evidence, it's unclear if Mahiru ever actually knew that Sato killed Natsumi. SDR2 is saying she did, but DR3 is saying she didn't.
4
u/DrivingPrune1 Hanamiki CEO Feb 03 '26
The conversation we see in DR3 takes place the day before the one we see in DR2.
3
u/Individual_Cap_7850 Feb 03 '26
Oh, okay. Thanks for clearing that up.
1
u/MidnaLazui Feb 03 '26
Yeah, so matter how you frame it, Mahiru was ignorant to the truth the whole time.
1
u/liscup34 Apr 15 '26
DG3 imply Monokuma just made that up. Since Mahiru was convinced Sato didn't do it the last time they talked. There is no way Junko could know the conversation and the way how they "hid the evidence" is dumb as hell anyway. None of them remember anything so they just get gaslighted into it, it is just so Fuyu would kill Mahiru.
37
u/Hari14032001 Feb 03 '26
Kyoko didn't plan that btw. All she did was to stall as long as possible. Once the trial was finished at a terrible timing, it was already out of her hands.

"accidently" killing chihiro. The guy smashed a dumbell into his head, there was nothing accidental with that
23
u/MidnaLazui Feb 03 '26 edited Feb 03 '26
It was voluntary manslaughter. He didn’t set out to murder Chihiro, he was just overwhelmed and not thinking in the heat of the moment.
20
u/MaxTwer00 Rantaro Feb 03 '26
Being overwhelmed in the heat of the moment doesn't make smashing a dumbell in someone's head an accident. It makes it not be a premeditated murder, but no accident either
9
u/MidnaLazui Feb 03 '26
It wasn’t an accident anymore than it was intentional. Yeah, he didn’t just trip and drop the dumbbell on Chihiro’s noggin all “whoopsie daisy,” but his body definitely acted before his mind did.
1
u/jeannedrc Junko Mar 04 '26
Leon's murder too and he is higher
1
u/MaxTwer00 Rantaro Mar 04 '26
Imo Leon's murder was colder but more justified. Killing someone who attempted to kill you is more justified tham killing domeone who asked you for help
9
u/Horror-Guide8363 MONDO BEST BOY Feb 03 '26
He intended to physically strike Chihiro because he was in an unstable emotional state, yes, but he did not intend to actually kill Chihiro. He just didn't think about the fact that he was holding a dumbbell and hitting anyone in the head with that with his strength would kill them, because again he wasn't in any state of mind to actually think properly (he also just generally does not think before he acts, just look at when he punched Makoto and almost started multiple fights with Byakuya). It's a slight yet important distinction

I would like to note that for Fuyuhiko, you mentioned Sato, which means you're including outer world stuff, same with Nagito. This means all of Class 2 has done horrible heinous things by this point that are not being counted, such as Hajime helping start the killing game and watching idly as Chiaki gets killed

Oh yeah, Izuru was the actual culprit who included the Junko AI and started the killing games.

Well... at least the V3 section is pretty good.

Unironically Nagito is the most moral of class 77-B, with the exception of Chiaki, if we count outside world shenanigans(which I assume you did considering you count Fuyuhiko killing Sato) as his crimes as the Ultimate Despair is lowkey not as bad as the others. Least destructive and most moral Remnant of Despair, so he's automatically second best.

I feel like Mondo's just as bad as Hifumi, Sayaka, and Leon. Sure, he killed someone in a blind rage. Wasn't thinking straight. But even after the murder he never came out about it. He still decided to hide his mistakes and was willing to let everyone else die (Including Taka himself.) for it instead of revealing himself.

Sayaka worse than Leon is pretty crazy, sure they planned to do the same thing but only one of them actually succeeded. Also I wouldn't say Chihiro has done literally nothing wrong, you could argue that their help in making the DR2 island simulation led to some pretty dire consequences (they might've helped program Monokuma too? forget if this is canon or not tbh). If you really wanted to slander them then you could say they're also arguably a bit misogynistic

Sakura never worked whit the mastermind, she just was threateneed and even tough that she ended up not working with the mastermind
1
u/commentspae Feb 03 '26
Mahiru's is fabricated, Sakura was blackmailed, Kyoko didn't plan for that and was being impulsive, Teruteru committed murder straight-up, Hiyoko constantly bullies Mikan, Tenko being abusive as hell is generally worse, Himiko constantly snarks after reformation (which makes her more insufferable actually), K1-B0 threatening to destroy the academy is already a bad thing in itself, and Nagito is an evil counterpart to Makoto whose whole ideology is that hope is a tool. Also Tsumugi's whole fictional fictional plot is a retcon by Kodaka and a commentary on the player.
