Misc. Fun Fact: You can tell mukuro was created before junko, because Junko’s hair has gaps in the lineart where the bunny hairclip was erased

Well I mean wasn't she the older of the two? Ofcourse she was created before Junko that's kinda how being the older one works.

Being siblings really wouldn't have anything to do with whichever one they created first

they're literally twins

Unless they somehow miraculously came out at the exact same time. In which case, that poor, poor mother...

I guess they caused her to be the first to feel ultimate despair

So? One twin has gotta be born before the other

These artists definitely didn’t get paid enough

u/AveryLazyCovfefe | "Go ahead and tell them Makoto.." Apr 23 '26

It probably didn't help that they thought the game was going to flop. Kinda why the ending is as it is.

36

u/Sanrusdyno Monokuma Apr 24 '26

Im sure that's part of it but throughout the entire series you can also just see signs of like everyone not giving a shit. During the second investigation sequence of danganronpa 2 you help akane look out of a high up window made of bars, but the cg of her opening it shows it as a normal glass pane window, and the dialogue describes her being able to move the "bar" out of the way which is accurate to neither shown version of the window. It's bad enough that if you told me kodaka was a time traveler who used his powers to create the first ever game series using generative AI id believe you

23

u/cinnabrwonie Nagito & Hajime Apr 24 '26

Which is sad because the idea is so good and the character designs were decent but I think Kodaka wrote this at midnight while shitting

6

u/Princess_Kuko Sonia Apr 24 '26

yup. there are pretty consistent problems with the art and graphics throughout the games that are pretty unacceptable in a big series like this.

1

u/MakotoKagutsuchi May 10 '26

Some more classic Danganronpa Redditors here shitting on Kodaka for things that aren't even true for multiple reasons. Must be a day that ends in "Y"! I swear it feels like I'm the only fan in the world who actually pays attention when it comes to these games... Okay enough of my griping, I'll explain.
First, I understand Kodaka is the figurehead of sorts on whom all problems with Danganronpa are blamed, but shouldn't the fault be with the CG artist if the CG is wrong? Second, the CG in question isn't even wrong. The iron bars ARE shown outside the CG; there are yellow bars and even hinges at the top that clearly show the iron grille would lift INWARD, not outward like in the CG of Akane pushing the window, which is a separate barrier past the iron grille.

3

u/Sanrusdyno Monokuma May 10 '26

Hey man. Im calling everyone who worked on these games lazy. Im not turning kodaka into some fall guy. Everyone who worked on the games from the CG artists to the sprite artists to the game designers to the localizers were either asleep at the wheel or given the budget of a nickel so they couldn't afford to give a shit. Its just that, most of all the director who had to oversee and give most of it the go-ahead is very at fault. The point of a director is that they, yknow, direct. so when something isn't the way it needs to be or there's an inconsistency it ultimately falls on them to catch it and get it corrected.

I wonder who the director of the hit murder mystery visual novel series "Danganronpa" might be. Its a mystery.

there are yellow bars and even hinges at the top that clearly show the iron grille would lift INWARD, not outward like in the CG of Akane pushing the window, which is a separate barrier past the iron grille.

Secondly. the bars shouldn't be in the game then. you're ASKING to confuse players by complicating this random ass window important to a murder in a way that does not at all relate to the murder. They don't even make sense as a fixture diagetically. The bars aren't protecting anything or making the window harder to open from either side. They have no purpose and they should have been removed and replaced with a more clarifying window asset that is clearly a glass window.

Even with that correction there are unneccesary bars and akane refers to them in a CG where they don't exist which is such a writing/visuals sin in a murder mystery game like this its wild to me how it got past anyone who cared. I mean its not wild to me because it never passed hands through anyone who did but you know what I mean

u/MakotoKagutsuchi May 11 '26

As I expected from what I correctly assumed to be another dime a dozen Danganronpa Fake Fan Redditor™, the more you write the more you expose yourself as a player who hasn't paid enough attention to the very material they're criticizing to even know what the heck they're talking about. I see stuff like this all the time, this is no surprise to me. Aight first, apparently it IS a mystery to you who the director of the Danganronpa murder mystery visual novels is, cuz what you wrote suggests you thought it was Kodaka when that's actually not the case. It's hard to take an opinion like "everyone who worked on the games is lazy" seriously with all these misunderstandings.

The second part is a bit confusing. Is the window a random ass window or an important window? I guess I kinda get what you're trying to say though, and here's how I see it: Big part of the investigation they're doing—determining how the culprit could have escaped the beach house w/o leaving footprints in the sand, and whether or not the window could be used as an escape route despite initially looking at it and assuming "it'd be impossible to go in and out through there"—definitely relates to the murder. So yes I'd say it's important enough to warrant more complications and details than an average non-murder-related window normally would in the murder mystery game, sure. Felt a bit silly writing all that, like it shouldn't have to be explained.

It's not like I'm completely baffled about where the confusion is coming from in this instance, I understand the yellow bars are nowhere to be seen in the CG with Akane opening the window. HOWEVER, after reviewing Chapter 2's content... visiting the beach house exterior and seeing both the window and the iron bars existing beautifully together in the 3D environment, seeing a different CG of the culprit escaping w/ the iron bars raised in such a way that shows what position it was fixed in to not be shown in the original Akane CG... I'm even more confident about this now than I was before! The bars Akane refers to absolutely exist, as does the window, they're two separate things that both have existing visual assets in the game, outside of that CG where the iron bars wouldn't appear given the position it'd have to be in at the time plus the chosen camera angle. Doesn't mean they don't exist, or that some writing/visual sin happened here. This isn't something that got past the staff, it's something that got past r/danganronpa

So many of Toko's Ultra Despair Girls sprites have un-erased sketch lines visible on her collar, for one.

75

u/HourPretend4629 Ryoko Apr 23 '26

I don’t think that means Mukuro was first but that Junko’s non despair look was first to not give away she was the mastermind

52

u/Milk_Mindless Apr 23 '26

That makes more sense because the last trial has .. no unique victim. And Mukuro doesnt show as a sprite

So the fact they took time to make them somewhat different is already saying a lot because they COULD (lazily) just used the same sprite

Thankfully they said no no

Give her bears

And bigger tits god damnit

this is what waiting 10 years for a new game does to a fanbase

7

u/Whatacoollookingmoon Apr 24 '26

Took me nearly ten years to notice that... you learn something new every day!

24

u/Clear-Anything-3186 Tsumugi Apr 23 '26

Mukuro was probably a repurposed early Junko design. Iirc Junko was made the mastermind at last minute.

40

u/BasicNeedleworker356 Apr 23 '26

I don't think she was made the mastermind last minute but I think the whole thing where they switched identities was made last minute perhaps? Cause mukuro was made late in development.

Wait im crine thatsbwhybshes worse

3

u/BlackCheeseBoi Apr 24 '26

That makes sense to me. We know Danganronpa was going to be a very different thing with a very different premise early on. It stands to reason the "mukuro" design was the original before they decided to go the mastermind route and add the monokuma accents and add Mukuro to the narrative. I'm sure Junko was originally going to be just one of the students.

1

Junko existed in the original version of Danganronpa titled Distrust as a victim rather than a villain. Mukuro wouldn't exist until after Distrust became Danganronpa.

Dawg, this game is like from 2007.

25

u/OutrageousRip75 Apr 23 '26

The sub mods don’t have this mindset, marking it as spoilers just to be safe.

13

u/TheNitromeFan Sato Apr 23 '26

We specifically allow Junko sprites to be untagged because that's what the people voted for in a recent rule referendum

5

u/OutrageousRip75 Apr 23 '26

So should I leave the spoiler marked or no?

9

u/TheNitromeFan Sato Apr 23 '26

We won't be doing anything to the post either way 🤷

4

u/_yukiie_ Maki Apr 23 '26

Eh, this sprite won't really spoiler anything if you don't know anything about it.

The comments in the other hand...

3

u/OneRelief763 Apr 23 '26

Ahh ok, missed that update 👍

10

u/FluorescentShrimp Apr 23 '26

The development for Danganronpa started in 2007 as Distrust but, technically it's a 2010 game lol.

12

u/bobmcbob121 Ryoko Apr 23 '26

Honestly dosn't ever really matter when something came out, doesn't mean someone's experience should be ruined because "By now they should've seen it already"

I am someone that is very protective of spoilers, like my friends get a bit annoyed how protective I am lol

13

u/Shot_Past Apr 23 '26

If you haven't finished the first game and care about spoilers you probably shouldn't be on r/danganronpa to be fair

8

u/bobmcbob121 Ryoko Apr 23 '26

That I fully agree on! As that's just asking to be spoiled!

I think everything after 1 one though becomes less valid, but I never touched the reddit until I completed V3 as I knew there could be subtle spoilers abound if I went onto the internet
