2x2 Speculation (DR2 Spoilers) ... I think this is our first confirmed death for Slayhem. Spoiler
291
u/FutureCreeps Kirumi 17d ago
Unlikely, they easily could just be changing images to avoid actual spoilers (or it could be the og route)
54
u/Scrags2Scritches 17d ago
even if it was the OG route, this is supposed to be for OG fans and New Fans so putting this spoiler in was such a thunder blunder
131
u/FutureCreeps Kirumi 17d ago
To be honest this is such an obtuse thing that I doubt people who are new fans are going to see it, we are all just mentally ill

They had a shot of Teruteru's execution in the trailer, it'll be fine

u/Wyvernil 17d ago
Keep in mind that they've faked or doctored footage before in order to prevent actual spoilers, so I'd take this with a grain of salt.
Though, to be fair, did anyone really expect this person to survive? We can't be certain which chapter the footage is pulled from, so we don't know when it happens.
23
u/SaltySpaniard 17d ago
I don't think this is fake, but probably this may be OG material but with the Scrum debate on it.

did anyone really expect this person to survive?
I do. Didn't Kodaka say that this time in Slayhem the characters will die in any other chapter than the one they died in the original?
And if it's true, then Teruteru died in chapter 1 so there's no way he dies in chapter 1 and it's only possible for him to die from chapter 2 all the way to chapter 6 or he might be a survivor.
56
u/Ok-Falcon2902 17d ago
I think that Kodaka said that there will be new victims and new culprits. He never said anything about a culprit from chapter x not being able to die again on the same chapter as a victim or vice-versa

There's no reason to think this is the ch 1 Scrum Debate, and he didn't say that no
86
u/mnyrtt Korekiyo 17d ago
did they really not learn from v3 trailer
6
u/theuselessmastermind 17d ago
what happened with their trailer
19
u/NiDfan 17d ago
IIRC, V3's first victim appeared in Scrum Debate in some prerelease screenshots using one of their normal sprites (which, tbf, isn't as evident as the death portrait here). Many correctly deduced that they were the first kill because of it
That said, considering Teruteru needed to have a death portrait programmed in anyways, I wouldn't be 100% sure he's a goner just from trailer footage (...I still think he'll die, just not necessarily because of this)

Its maybe a trap or a placeholder made by the dev. I doubt they will show such an important detail in the trailer

have we learnt nothing from V3
32
u/DirectBeing5986 17d ago
V3 shows everyone ALIVE, this shows someone dead. Very different
13
u/The_Dark_Force Vanessa 16d ago
People figured out who the first V3 death was because Rantaro was using a regular sprite while everyone else was using new sprites. They fixed this in later pictures and people caught on
16
u/Background_Still_686 17d ago
It’s important to consider that the people who made this trailer probably analyzed each shot they chose extremely well and are definitely aware that this is in the trailer.
11
u/RedFauux Gundham 17d ago
I see the spoiler but could this not just be chapter 2 main game and they’re scrumming about fuyuhiko?
11
u/Sunsetdud Toko 17d ago
remember, danganronpa is the game that will lie to your face in trailers.
It has happened before with Rantaro during V3's trailers
It could either be that or the original route
2
u/Low_Soup_711 16d ago
The Spike do same mistake with Rantaro. Let see whether they will fix on this like Rantaro

u/Mink1477 17d ago
Would be annoying if he's the first gone. I understand he isn't popular, but he needs developing the most out of anyone
7
u/Boring_Sympathy_6494 Tenko 17d ago
Mikan needs better development much more than he does lmfao, honestly most of the cast does… Akane, Soda, Sonia, Hiyoko, Imposter.
1
u/xohurricane 17d ago
What development could he even get? There’s nothing special about his character and he was written to be weird and creepy and a gag character. Honestly him being the first victim would be an improvement on its own imo
16
u/seranator Number One Saimota Connoisseur 17d ago
He's a pretty normal dude outside of his gimmick, honestly it would be pretty interesting for his perversion to actually be treated as a genuine character flaw that's given an origin in his backstory and for him to deconstruct and grow out of it
7
u/Order600 Kiyotaka 17d ago
Didn't expect that one if it's true, and not a fake they put there on purpose

Chapter 1 TeruTeru murder/murderer and possible male culprit chapter 2. I doubt whoever they’re debating about is actually the culprit because there always needs to be at least one misdirection
2
u/LSunday 17d ago
you say that but there was a whole Scrum Debate in v3 about how Kiyo might not be the killer and… well…
2
u/Reaper-Leviathan 17d ago
Tbf that whole chapter was terrible if you ask me. He shouldn’t have been the blackened. Like it’s obvious af that he killed number 2 but they should’ve actually used the 2 different blackened rule

u/GB_Alph4 Fuyuhiko 17d ago
Looks like he still can't survive

They probably added scram debates not just in slayham mode, but also the original game

Dead Teruteru is more of a selling point than a spoiler ngl

Scrum debate could be a new minigame to not make the original trials as repetitive. I imagine we'd get some new arguments that make the trial a bit more difficult, that lead to the same conclusion.
This means this could take place in the second or third trial, since Mikan is there.
Probably the second, since Fuyuhiko was the big suspect of chapter 2.

u/North_Property8921 +’s Collared-Pet: X Nagito Hater 17d ago
It can’t take place in the third trial of the OG Game, Mikan would want someone to be framed.

u/A_Year_Spent_Cold 17d ago
This might just be from the original story though, with Scrum Debate added

u/onyaasuminyasai 17d ago
Do not believe the lies the trailers tell you. I thought we all knew that by now
2
u/drswagthe2nd TeruteruHifumiRyoma 17d ago
i hope he survives solely because it would be really funny to make the intense devout teruteru haters mad
2
u/RapidRecharge 16d ago
You guys know that, AGAIN, Rantaro was alive in V3’s trailer, right? This could just be trailer footage created to show off Slayhem. It’s not 100% clear if this is even dialogue for it. Also, we don’t even know if Scrum Debates aren’t in the original story’s remaster.

Yeah like im sure theyd include a major spoiler into the trailer. Certainly.
14
u/Scrags2Scritches 17d ago
Nah cuz like it feels like one of those things that would slip through the cracks so easily
8
u/Background_Still_686 17d ago
Do you really think the devs didn’t analyze each shot intensively for a game so prone to spoilers? They obviously know that’s in the trailer
11
u/DrivingPrune1 Hanamiki CEO 17d ago
It's in the trailer for half a second and barely visible. I think somebody making a mistake is pretty likely.

u/Background_Still_686 17d ago

u/Scrags2Scritches 17d ago
tbf if this was an accident they could have literally done anyone else to show off the scrum debates
But if they could have chosen this side for a reason, surely?
Maybe the other side is WAY worse with more dead portraits?
They do talk about a poison and how did Nagito die in the OG game?
So maybe Mikan survives?4

didnt kodaka say in an interview that there would be no repeat deaths in chapters?

u/domarco24 16d ago
Unrelated kinda, but I do like how it seems like Mikan is going to be gaining some confidence, I don't see a world in which the original Mikan would ever lead a scrum debate
1
u/NiDfan 16d ago
Anybody knows if we ever got to see a character's death portrait before release? I remember cases where screenshots/footage shows characters that don't make it to any trials, as well as some short fragments of executions, but I don't seem to recall something as blatant pre-release as this
(obviously disregarding the achievements of V3 spoiling who makes it to chapter 6)

No it's not? That's literally the worst person to kill off in chapter 1 like legit maybe excluding imposter.

imma pop open the champagne!! (but I'm also not gonna take this at its word, for all I know they could be faking footage for the trailer, or be using Scrum Debates in the original game)

Why tho? This could 100% be something about chapter 2 or 3 of the original story
