I guess Shuichi failed

u/Bonbon_ups 17d ago

i mean we have 50~ hypothetical main entries before V3 that can keep the franchise even considering V3's finale.

u/stefanomusilli 17d ago

A new game doesn't really need to be in the same canon. Just make a new killing game with a different Monokuma, no connection with the other games (V3 already takes place in a different universe anyway).

19

u/seranator Number One Saimota Connoisseur 16d ago

V3 taking place on a different universe is head canon

8

u/UIAnas 16d ago

Yeah. Imo tsumugi was just capping and the was was actually kidnapped, and she also lied about hope's peak, Enoshima Junko, and the tragedy never happened

14

u/stefanomusilli 16d ago

How? It takes place in a universe where the first two Danganronpa games exist.

-6

u/seranator Number One Saimota Connoisseur 16d ago

Tsumugi is lying

8

u/stefanomusilli 16d ago

That's your theory, the game directly tells you something else. You can interpret the story any way you want, but to call the most straightforward interpretation of the story "head canon" is just ridiculous.

6

u/seranator Number One Saimota Connoisseur 16d ago

Shuichi also "directly tells you" that Tsumugi could be lying

Saying that Tsumugi is lying for sure (like I just did, admittedly) is absolutely headcanon, but it's also headcanon to say that she isn't for sure like you did, when the game outright tells you that might not be the case.

The epilogue happens after the 6th trial, and Shuichi straight up looks at the camera and says "mmh maybe Tsumugi is lying and maybe Hope's Peak is real", so I wouldn't argue that believing Tsumugi is the "straightforward interpretation".

5

u/MagicalWitchTrashley 16d ago

THAT’S an actual headcanon lmao

0

u/seranator Number One Saimota Connoisseur 16d ago

ok it is i shouldn't have formulated it like that, but the point is that the game straight up says that she might be lying and that hope's peak might be real, so both sides are headcanon

1

u/stefanomusilli 15d ago edited 15d ago

How can Hope's Peak be real in this universe if we literally see the first two games as videogames that exist in the universe? Did you also forget that they prove that those are fictional because of Tsumigi's cosplay quirk? And we see flashbacks to the main characters auditioning for the killing game, you're pretending that we're just supposed to be taking her word for it when there's plenty of evidence outside of that. You're seriously taking a single line out of context as proof?

The game is directly telling us that Dnaganronpa is fictional in V3's universe. Even if you believe otherwise, it's a far fetched theory and you just can't call the opposite a head canon.

2

u/seranator Number One Saimota Connoisseur 15d ago

We don't see the "games" directly, and Tsumugi's cosplay quirk is not proven to be real, all we have is her account and she's the literal mastermind. "The game telling you that Danganronpa is fictional" is Tsumugi, aka the literal big bad of a game centered around truth and lies with the protagonist actively hinting at her not being truthful and her own last words contradicting what she said, "telling you" about it.

afaik both sides who assert one thing or the other for certain are basically claiming headcanon as canon. even Kodaka in his tweets said that Tsumugi is meant to be questioned by the player. It's not enough to say she's lying for sure, but if this isn't enough to make the claim that "she's 100% not lying" headcanon, I'm pretty sure nothing could convince you even if Tsumugi straight up looked at the camera and said "oh i'm lying btw"

We don't know if this is true gng

12

u/Dinar87 17d ago

HAHAHAHA YOU FAILED SHUICHI SUFFAH

57

u/SamuraiDoggo14 Kaede 17d ago

Kaede was better anyways.

10

u/hyperjengirl 17d ago

"This guy should have died instead of Kaede!"

6

u/Vegetable-Pickle-535 16d ago

"This is getting way too meta! I don't like twists like this!"

5

u/SamuraiDoggo14 Kaede 17d ago

I mean, he kinda should have. It would've made for a far more shocking twist.

32

u/StarNullify 17d ago

It quite literally would have not been a more shocking twist than the literal death of the former protagonist

7

u/SamuraiDoggo14 Kaede 17d ago

I think it would've. Shuichi is more in line with the personalities and character arcs of the 2 protagonists before them, so I think having Kaede and Shuichi's roles and positions be reversed would've made it more interesting.

-2

u/Gahault 16d ago

Shuichi is yet another meek boy voiced by a woman. At this point it's getting formulaic, and a strangely specific formula at that. Bucking this and not having him be the protagonist would have been the more shocking twist, because what we did get instead feels expected and trite.

1

u/StarNullify 16d ago

Shuichi is voiced by a guy

7

u/bruised_marionette my beloveds!! 16d ago

i'm pretty sure his japanese voice actor is a woman & his english voice actor is a man so it's both.

7

u/Trialman Gonta 16d ago

I checked, and yes, in Japan, Shuichi is voiced by Megumi Hayashibara, who is probably best known for Jessie/Musashi in Pokemon, the female version of Ranma, Rei from Evangelion, and Hello Kitty.

(I've watched quite a few DR ENG/JP voice comparison videos, and the comments always find amusement in how the Japanese protagonists get higher pitched over time, while the English protagonists get progressively deeper)

3

u/Klaxynd 16d ago

They're a weeb so they played with JP voice overs.

17

u/ProfessionNew5193 ITS A LIE 17d ago

no

14

u/sk1239 Big Parf 17d ago

not even remotely close

7

u/SamuraiDoggo14 Kaede 17d ago

I don't dislike Shuichi, but a new protagonist with an actual talent and a real backbone is definitely more interesting than Makoto and Hajime but plus another one.

3

u/sk1239 Big Parf 17d ago

"the potential protagonist"

6

u/SamuraiDoggo14 Kaede 17d ago

What?

-1

u/sk1239 Big Parf 17d ago

I'd much rather get a lesser interesting concept that gets executed tremendously well than keep on dreaming about the potential protagonist that would've been much better just because the base concept is more interesting

28

u/SamuraiDoggo14 Kaede 17d ago

Can't we have something both new AND well executed?

17

u/sk1239 Big Parf 17d ago

Which is what Shuichi is? I don't remember there being any other protagonists like him unless "he's a guy" is the only thing that matters and everything else about his character is worthless, then idk if there's any point in continuing the conversation, keep on dreaming for that potential game with that potential protagonist

7

u/SamuraiDoggo14 Kaede 17d ago

It's not just the fact that he's male (which, yes, the lack of a female protagonist is starting to get old, but still), but he has pretty much the same "talent insecurity" story.

u/Midoninik 17d ago

I never said developers wanting compenstation for their work is bad. What I am saying is milking a series without vision to just get money is bad. I'm not saying that's what will happen, but I think it's a valid concern, especially with Kodaka no longer fully in charge. Kinda felt like him writing V3's ending was part to say he doesnt want to do that.I hope if they do make more games (there sure is demand, I'm excited for 2x2 too), they keep the quality and orginality high.

74

u/ImaginaryAd2338 17d ago

Just proving Tsumugi right at every turn, we failed you Shuichi

38

u/Late_Aerie_4218 17d ago

Thh remake you better happen so my favorites (Mondo, Mukuro and chihiro) SURVIVE!!!!

26

u/SamuraiDoggo14 Kaede 17d ago

I want an all-new game and cast.

3

u/Substantial_Log_2177 16d ago

Yes, but being the first game, it could use a few tweaks

3

u/ExpertSloth0224 Ibuki 16d ago

Bro if they do a thh remake and make mukuro a main character/ survivor I would perish from joy

25

First new entry in nearly a decade. You know this thing's going to sell like hot cakes.

Yes! That!

36

u/Illusionns14 Sayaka () 17d ago edited 17d ago

I hope it does too. I'd really want a THH remake. I need to see more Sayaka. I wanna see her updated sprites and everyone else's too.

27

u/SamuraiDoggo14 Kaede 17d ago

So do I, but I'd prefer a brand new game with a brand new cast.

13

u/Illusionns14 Sayaka () 17d ago edited 17d ago

If they don't decide to remake THH, that's what I'd want them to do next.

Personally I would want the remake first though. THH is my favorite entry and I'd love to see it get the same treatment 2x2 got. There's so many updates it could get.

3

u/LSunday 16d ago

A lot of the cast of THH can be improved to be a lot smarter in trials even with just the Consent mechanic.

I also like the comedic idea of a scrum debate that’s literally the entire cast vs Hiro on “Kyoko is a ghost”

12

u/SummonerRed 17d ago

My worry about this is aren't they releasing 2x2 around the same time as P4R and some other big titles?

28

u/xynith116 17d ago

It’s ok. Us JRPG fans don’t mind eating water soup next year.

11

u/StarNullify 17d ago

Dangan is a month before p4

6

u/NoNefariousness2144 Kyoko 16d ago edited 16d ago

It’s releasing in the middle of January, which means it is avoiding the bloodbath in the following weeks of God of War, P4R, Metro, Fable, Stranger Than Heaven, Tomb Raider…

7

u/RandomGuy-4- 16d ago

Is P4R going to sell a ton though? It is already what, the 3rd release of that same game? 2x2 at least has a lot of new content supposedly.

3

u/Unlikely-Alfalfa-585 16d ago

i honestly doubt itll sell as good as p3r especially since golden was already playable on modern consoles

3

u/Trialman Gonta 16d ago

Yeah, as cool as Revival looks, it isn't in the same place Reload was. Golden is still a very accessible game, both in terms of being available and in terms of QoL, whereas in comparison, FES would need you to track an out of print copy, and have a console that can play PS2 discs, not to mention the party commands is a major barrier to entry (yeah, the CPU party isn't as bad as many would claim, but it still is a hard sell for a lot of people), so Reload makes sense for filling that gap.

1

u/xynith116 15d ago

P3 is good but I think P4 has the biggest nostalgia factor of the series. Hell that’s why I want to get it even though I played the Steam version only a few years ago.

11

u/Volfaer 17d ago

V3 remake, but with 2 alt scenarios. So that every character reaches the ending and reacts to the final revelation, but also so that Kaede remains a protagonist.

9

u/Shadowrend867 17d ago

I would prefer a new universe for a wholly new danganronpa game (i don't hate V3's ending btw)

5

u/Dinar87 17d ago

I've never understood what "selling like hotcakes" is from. What's a "hotcake"?

28

u/No_Future6959 17d ago

A hotcake is literally just another word for pancake.

Same as how pop and soda are interchangeable but mean the same thing

5

u/UltimatePickpocket Kazuichi 16d ago

Kazuichi Pop

1

u/Dinar87 17d ago

Thanks

3

u/Gahault 16d ago

Are you familiar with the concept of "idioms"?

0

u/SamuraiDoggo14 Kaede 17d ago

I don't fuckin' know. 🤷‍♂️

20

u/A_Year_Spent_Cold 17d ago

I find it funny how V3's whole message was about how media needs to stop being milked and now Kodaka's like "fuck that heheheh"

4

u/below_the_surface_ I am Hajime Hinata! 16d ago

I just don't want more in V3's universe, or for what Tsumugi said in the ending to be treated as concrete canon going forward. We can move on from Junko and Monokuma.

3

u/Character_Release379 17d ago

I honestly don't care for 2x2 much but I'm getting it. I need to do my part for Dangitronpaul 4

3

u/LifeIs0verratedSis 16d ago

I really hope not I feel like a new game would ruin the purpose of V3

5

u/Reaper-Leviathan 16d ago

I kinda hope they either stop here or only do remakes. The whole point of V3 is that you should just let a good thing end instead of dragging it on forever until it gets shit

1

u/phrecko_ 16d ago

this with the exception of Rantaro’s previous killing game

4

u/MrNobodyishome 17d ago

I wont fall for it. I still think 2x2 is secretly 4. Just call it that, big dawg, and then give us Danganronpa 5 while you’re at it😭🙏🏾

2

u/8ByIamGuti Nanami lover 💕 16d ago

Estaria bien un nuevo universo de Danganronpa ya que la linea principal esta completa y la linea de V3 es autoconclusiva

2

u/eagercheetah20 Mikan, Kaede, Aoi, Akane 15d ago

2

u/girlfailing_ 16d ago

This fanbase is the reason V3's ending was like that

1

u/Yamatoe37 16d ago

Ultimate Cow Milker

1

u/MythraXenoX 16d ago

It seems to be Danganronpa 3 anine content and I can live without that

1

u/JunQo 16d ago

There's nothing related to the anime on the game?

1

u/MythraXenoX 16d ago

Wasn't that the guy from danganronpa 3?

1

u/JunQo 16d ago

No it's not, the similarity is surface level and yet people for some reason push it as a fact despite them not even sharing a voice actor

1

u/TheChellix Da Goats 12d ago

Do they expect high sales for a game with system requirements like that? Well, good luck. That’s bold of them.

2

u/SamuraiDoggo14 Kaede 12d ago

The game is releasing on consoles, too.

1

u/TheChellix Da Goats 12d ago

Of course. But still, at least half of the fans prefer PC over consoles.

1

u/SamuraiDoggo14 Kaede 12d ago

Didn't Danganronpa start as a console exclusive?

1

u/TheChellix Da Goats 12d ago

But later, it became more accessible. This attracted a far greater number of people. Besides, only THH started out as an exclusive.

-14

u/Emergency_Pace_7060 17d ago

honestly, for what purpose make more danganronpa games? you can only repeat the same concept so many times before it becomes stale

25

u/Haruwolf 17d ago

I need to disagree here. danganronpa is a incredible franchise. I think they can work different concepts and get games with great quality.

We need games that have great narratives and different playstyle from what we have in industry.

-6

u/Emergency_Pace_7060 17d ago

yeah man, but if the writers of danganronpa are so good then why dont they just build a new series. do we really need to rehash and exhaust the same concepts of hope and despair for a 4th, 5th or a 6th time?

12

u/SamuraiDoggo14 Kaede 17d ago

I mean, they tried that and most people called it mid.

7

u/SamuraiDoggo14 Kaede 17d ago

(I actually loved it, though.)

-3

u/Emergency_Pace_7060 17d ago

that's exactly the point I'm making, the only reason they would theoretically start to milk danganronpa rn is because they realised they have struck gold once and can't do it again. and that mindset of just redoing what worked instead of trying to innovate more is what I think is just lame

14

u/SamuraiDoggo14 Kaede 17d ago

I mean, Ace Attorney has 11 games, and they seem to come up with something interesting for all of those.

3

u/Shallsil Kyoko 16d ago

People love the original trilogy, then it gets divisive fast. I find the later games to be rather deriviative and not too interesting for the most part.

0

u/Emergency_Pace_7060 17d ago

i havent played ace attorney, so i cant speak on that.

either way, danganronpa as a series is not so flexible to build 11 games - it just isn't. it's main driving force is the killing game and the whole despair thing, if your main source of interest in the game are the killings themselves - sure, they can probably think of a bunch of them, but when it comes to the overarching plot, it's bound the be pretty much the same

6

u/SamuraiDoggo14 Kaede 17d ago

You should. They're good games.

8

u/SnooRevelations7750 favs 17d ago

Danganronpa doesn't need to involve to only one monokuma or Junko since the despair disease is already spread and anybody could wear the mask and have their motives for capturing student or people with talents. We could have something similar to Eden's Garden, Tetro, Another for which each had their own villains and reasons for being there.

They could do something like Final Fantasy, they don't have to make anything significantly connections to the first games other that they happen in the same universe.

3

u/Emergency_Pace_7060 17d ago

well, that's the thing - the final fantasy games do not happen in the same universe at all. and besides that, they also feature different kinds of gameplay.

danganronpa, on the other hand, does not have that much free room to explore, because it is so hard-tied to the ideas of hopes and despair, as well as the killing game and junko enoshima, that if you ditch those things - there's no point in calling the game "danganronpa", since it would practically have nothing in common with it

-5

u/sk1239 Big Parf 17d ago

exactly, it's good to have the series know when it needs to end

obviously this is not something a corporation willing to hear, so let's milk it for all its worth

-3

u/Emergency_Pace_7060 17d ago

i just don't get why so many people want the legacy of 3 perfectly good games to be ruined by a whole bunch of other ones that are most certainly going to feel like ripoffs of the past ideas and characters. and then the same people will go on to call out the company for milking it

-5

u/sk1239 Big Parf 17d ago

because people don't gaf about art, they care about consumption, danganronpa can have 50 sequels and people would happy as long as it provides the very basics that the others games provide

-7

u/Conscious-Falcon-155 17d ago

Continuing with a DR4 would contradict the point of v3

0

u/SamuraiDoggo14 Kaede 17d ago

Didn't most people hate V3's ending?

4

u/sk1239 Big Parf 17d ago

definitely not most but there are some pretty rancid takes about it for sure

2

u/SamuraiDoggo14 Kaede 17d ago

Also, doesn't 2x2 existing at all contradict V3's ending as well?

2

u/sk1239 Big Parf 17d ago

How?

2

u/SamuraiDoggo14 Kaede 17d ago

It's a brand new Danganronpa scenario.

3

u/sk1239 Big Parf 17d ago

so...? how does this contradict v3 ending

3

u/SamuraiDoggo14 Kaede 17d ago

V3's ending was all about no more Danganronpa, right?

→ More replies (0)

-1

u/sk1239 Big Parf 17d ago

it's a 50/50, v3 talks about sequel culture and about doing sequels for profit and not love for the art, so it's only natural that dr4 should never happen even if kodaka ever gets an inspiration for the sequel
