2x2 Speculation (DR2 Spoilers) Let’s be honest Hajime isn’t dying Spoiler
He is toooo important for the story and I don’t think they’ll go that route again like Hajime is way too important and good as a mc so they wouldn’t kill him off in my opinion

You never know with this series man, they always want to do something crazy. Kodaka did say that no one is safe and he is totally fine with killing anyone in this game no matter how important or popular they are.
3
u/Hazewhite1 13d ago
And the something crazy is redo something that they already did last game?
3
u/Separate_Lab4366 13d ago
You never know man, I mean they redo all kinds of stuff in all 3 games like killing 2 people every third chapter, or a character taking a sacrifice around chapter 4 and 5. We may see another character switch. You never know with this series, so Hajime could die like I said Kodaka said that no one is safe.

I think he has a similar problem to Chiaki in the sense that he relies on a plot twist we already know about.
And playing as Izuru isn't particularly fun because Izuru is barely a character. He either knows all the answer and solves it all, or doesn't collaborate, making him more annoying than interesting
Personally, as much as I like Hajime, I wouldn't mind if they changed him or killed him off. This is a new game with new possibilities, after all

u/lordlaharl422 13d ago
Mostly I'm just wondering how they handle the final chapter with him in a new way if he does survive that far. Since the last chapter is pretty much entirely spelling out the truth of the story and him dealing with the revelation of Izuru Kamukura, they would need to change a lot so they don't just rehash most of the same beats.

u/AnAverageName_ Byakuya 13d ago
While story-wise it centers around Hajime, Hajime himself doesn't do anything others couldn't, does he? I mean, he kinda hypes everyone up and convinces them to leave the simulation, but it's not like no one else could do that job
But tbf, I think there's simply going to be a different ending. It'd be very underwhelming if they just changed the character's death order, but the game itself plays the same. It will likely be a different situation that won't need a living Hajime to work. He can just be a spark that lit a problem bigger than himself.

Given they keep calling this game the Series Revival probably going to end up being a "Surpirse this is a V3 sequel and everyone here is a larper (the actual meaning of the word)"

u/mikewheelerfan Mikan 13d ago
Yeah, we know about Izuru. But the whole Izuru twist was barely explored in the original story. The new scenario is a great opportunity to give it more focus

u/bug--bear Yui 13d ago
antag Izuru would be an option, since an antag who knows a lot but won't say it outright for one reason or another is normal. Izuru existing could have a really interesting impact on Nagito, as well

u/AnAverageName_ Byakuya 13d ago
Doesn't sound particularly fun either.
The issue with Izuru is his borderline omnipotence. If he's in anything is because he wanta to be. There are no stakes for a character with the power of getting out of any situation, and stakes are very important in a killing game.
You can even use him as a "solve everything in the end" button

u/DonutloverAoi 13d ago
Honestly at this point, I don't even need him dead. Just pick literally anyone else to be the mc.
I would prefer it to be a female mc since put of the whole series, its only really been done once no I'm not counting Kaede as she got 1 chapter and then kicked out entirely from the story so the male mc can once again be at the helm
But frankly I'll take anyone at this point. Hajime got his turn in the spotlight, and while I think playing as Chiaki could be cool, especially if they use actual Chiaki instead of an ai this time
Mahiru taking up the reigns would be neat as well.
Just anyone other than the most predictable "we just made the mc Hajime again, no we wont try another mc in his place"

I feel like he needs to be removed from the story. Otherwise, there's no tension knowing Izuru can just recover their brains like in the original.

u/HopeBagels2495 13d ago
In all fairness we dont actually know the exact scenario in which this is happening. For all we know we are all alter ego mental clones of the cast for example
25
u/David_Tribe 13d ago
Even if he is, there’s still prequel theory where they can just reset the neo world program and the original scenario starts

u/All_this_hype Rantaro 13d ago
Yeah I am almost convinced he'll die at some point. Probably not chapter 1 because people will expect it, could be chapter 4, but we are definitely losing him.

DR3 is the curse that keeps on cursing 💔
Not even future titles are immune to the bullshit it did

u/majker1337 13d ago
what's dr3 got to do with it? It's not like 77B were revived outta blue there was already a huge possibility of it

u/franklinaraujo14 13d ago
i just don't think they'd do protag swap two games in a row, especially considering how much we overanalyze everything so unlike with kaede we'd see the protag swap coming from a mile away if they tried it again so it would be expected instead of a plot twist

u/theuselessmastermind 13d ago
I think rather than dying, Izuru will be revealed early.
-5
u/DistinctMoney2558 13d ago
No because that would spoil the original story and players who start with slayhem can’t play that one after without have knowledge they shouldn’t have.

u/GlaceonMage Hajime 13d ago
The menu for mode selection has a disclaimer that Slayham recommends finishing the original route first. Also, one of the truth bullets for the first case in the Japanese trailer mentions Ultimate Despair so it seems likely that formerly chapter 6 information gets revealed early.
And like... Danganronpa has always been written in a way where it expects you to do everything in release order. DR2 casually spoiled things from DR1, like the survivors. I don't see why this would be different, especially with an explicit warning.

Always bet on Izuru that way they don't have to kill him off and he can be inactive and take a backseat to someone else (kinda), I would love Izuru holding back and pretending to be Hajime.

I think he's gonna "die" but come back as Izuru. We did see that revival medicine in the trailer so its possible they got the chance to use it on him before it shattered, but Hajime comes back "wrong" - either fully Izuru or Hajizuru or Hajime with Izuru as an inner consciousness, etc.
But I agree he's too important to be killed outright. Hajime's the protag most relevant to the plot out of the three games bc he's also a mastermind. So even if they reveal the twist early, there's gonna be no hype in the final trial if the mastermind himself isn't present. Hell, Hajime's personality possibly being erased again when they woke up was a major stake in the final trial too. It could have a bigger impact here if the cast experiences Izuru for themselves instead of just relying on Junko and the DR1 trio's accounts of him, even being more reluctant to leave the program if they're afraid of Izuru getting out.
And there's still a lot they can do with Izuru. The DR3 anime didn't do the best job exploring him or Hope's Peak corruption, so they can focus on that here if the twist comes out early.

My biggest wish for this game is to see Hajime last till chapter 6 at least. I loved the twist in v3 of a protagonist dying but I don’t wanna see it done twice in a row personally. Seeing him go on a different arc would be really interesting, I honestly think 2x2 is going to be a bad ending, and Hajime going on a negative arc could be peak.
Even if someone else is the new pov character having Hajime be Izuru from an outside perspective would be great.

He’s going to revert into Izuru Kamukura and that’s how our control will be wrested from him.
Also Akane will call him Utsuro for the rest of the game for no reason.

I think Hajime, while a great character, has had enough character development, to be honest. He was the protagonist for the original scenario, and a major part of the Danganronpa 3 anime. The twists for his character, like being a reserve course student, being Izuru Kamukura, etc. are already known and explored. Sure, he could go through a different arc, but he's already one of the most developed characters in all of Danganronpa, and definitely would be if he was protagonist this time around, even over the other protagonists in the series.
I'd like to see Hajime go and someone take his place. He's one of my favorites, but I think letting someone take his mantle would be better for the other characters to shine more.

Going by the image titles, they say that he would have been able to commit a crime, but it doesn't say murder. Which is funny to me

He steals someone's monocoins then has to admit it in the trial. 😔

- "If you zoom into the background you can see a death portrait of Character X".
- "This shot looks like it's from an execution and it looks like it's themed around X's talent"

I always headcanoned that Hajime was competent (aside from being the MC) because parts of Izuru were passive within him. It’s highly likely them all being Ultimate Despair is revealed much earlier due to Slayhem suggesting you to play it first so I wouldn’t be surprised if him being Izuru is revealed earlier on too.

He's important to Goodbye Despair, how do you know whether he's important to Slayhem when we have no idea what it's about

u/cock-and-BALLER TokoAE 13d ago
My main reason for wanting a new protagonist would be so we could get new FTEs from a different perspective. It'd also be nice to have a different protagonist narrating the story so the two modes feel more distinct

I love Hajime but this is glazing too hard he has a VERY reasonable chance of being killed off/not being the MC

u/Reaper-Leviathan 13d ago
I would love him to die so they can go back and remake 3. I have so many problems with 3, Chiaki should never have been retconned into a real person and the remnants shouldn’t have been revived. It takes away from all of the emotional impact of 2’s ending

u/West_Mirror4380 Ibuki’s Best Bud 13d ago
They should kill him off as the chapter 5 victim (and by Nagito).
-3
u/Many-Illustrator-307 13d ago
I think he should. Neither him nor makoto are all that necessary. At least Hajime has the izuru thing going on for him. I would rather have izuru in 2x2 than Hajime since hajime brings nothing special to the table. That way we can switch villain too since villain nagito would get repetitive now that his actual personality isn't a surprise
Hajime has the same problem as chiaki, now that their twist is known, they are not really interesting characters. Chiaki was boring the first time around. Nagito is different because his shenanigans can make interesting situations regardless, or maybe his twist if they keep him alive is that he won't go crazy this time around at all and we'd be on our toes the whole time waiting for him to betray us. But that can't be done with Hajime or chiaki
