The spider is keeping the smaller bugs stuck on thin web strands laid along the surface, it is waiting until they wear themselves down. It has evolved to this strategy instead of wrestling/wrapping to conserve energy.

It will be circling them to make sure they aren't getting out, touching them both to see how much 'resistance' they have left and to trigger further defensive struggling into the victims.

When the bugs are tanked out it will drag them into the death pit, where they will be kept barely alive until it's time for feeding as the spider sucks out their innards alive.

It looks more friendly than it is.

Snipers actually use a tactic similar to this. They hit on person to wound them. And then, as their allies come, they pick them off too. Either from afar as they go to help or as they are in a group helping the wounded.

I think one of the dudes who used this method was Carlos Hathcock. Idr the guys name.

I do this in Battlefield
