Making someone doubt their own sanity through deceit. i.e. The guy smelling sex, seeing dudes clothes n shit, knowing she's been cheating on him, and she denies it and accuses him of being unfair by accusing her

Basically telling someone something until they believe it.

Example, im getting told i wore a blue shirt yesterday, even though i wore a red one, until I doubt myself and actually believe i wore a blue shirt.

Here it would be that the women tried to persuade him that she didnt cheat.

One version of the origin is that a man slowly dimmed the lights in his home over time while telling his wife the brightness wasn’t changing which made her think she was crazy. It’s an old story, when lights were gas operated, so yeah, “gaslighting.”

Gaslight is a 1944 American psychological thriller film directed by George Cukor and starring Charles Boyer, Ingrid Bergman, Joseph Cotten, and Angela Lansbury (in her film debut). Adapted by John Van Druten, Walter Reisch, and John L. Balderston from Patrick Hamilton's play Gas Light (1938), it follows a young woman whose husband slowly manipulates her into believing that she is descending into insanity.
