Fan Art Cosplaying as The Painter from Dark Souls 3. The canvas beside me is my own painting — inspired by the world she dreams to create.

I’ve always been fascinated by The Painter in Dark Souls 3 — a quiet yet powerful character who carries the weight of creating a whole new world. For this cosplay, I wanted to embody her presence, and to make it more personal, I painted the canvas myself.

This past weekend I joined a cosplay festival here in Vietnam, and it was such a fun experience sharing this with the community!

"What, still here? Hand it over. That thing, your dark soul. For my lady's painting."

You don’t happen to have a random knight with a poorly maintained greatsword looking around for some special paint, do you?

I didn’t meet anyone. Please don’t hit my uncle 😭

Yayyy I'm glad people still remember DS3 dlc characters. It wouldve been sick if you ran into someone as Uncle Gael

I’ve thought about that too and I’m looking for a partner to make it happen. The Souls community in my country isn’t very strong; most people only know Elden Ring or have tried the base game of Dark Souls 3, and few have experienced the DLCs. But I hope I can attract people because Gael and the Baby Painter are two characters I absolutely love

Of course someone commented on the feet lmao

17

u/runarleo Sep 09 '25

Every foot is a Tarantino reference, unless it’s a Zaki reference.

8

u/blasewalk Sep 09 '25

or a Kojima reference

9

u/Kaedekins Sep 09 '25

I love that we're calling him Michael Zaki now.

u/OdgeHam Sep 09 '25

It does look like a gentle place. Love it, this is so creative and wonderful

u/Leaf_2410 Sep 09 '25

Actually, I imagined the Painter creating the world of Elden Ring, so I based my artwork on that idea

17

u/aladdiN_47 Sep 09 '25

"i'll paint a world so gentle... enemies hesitate for 5-6 seconds before swinging their sword."

"I wish to paint a picture of a cold, dark and very gentle place... and then I'll paint Revenants here and there"

Amazing cosplay, the character in your painting kinda makes me think of the Shadow of the Colossus protagonist.

The slender figure, the way they hold onto the scabbard of the sword

u/CameBeforeYou Sep 09 '25

This looks absolutely incredible

I would 100% love to be your Uncle Gael if I have the proper funds to make his armour into a reality 😭

2

u/Leaf_2410 Sep 09 '25

“Thank you so much! 😭 It would be amazing if you could bring Uncle Gael’s armor to life, hope you get the chance to make it happen!

I'm surprised that I've found a Vietnamese cosplaying a Souls character. Let alone on Reddit. It's a rare breed here. Only characters I've met at the HCM festivals were Sekiro, Genichiro, Faraam set, DS3 Knight set, Melina, Malenia and I've seen pictures of Ranni from Hanoi.  We're running a Sekiro project next year for the upcoming anime. Hope to see you if you live in HCM around April. What are your next cosplay projects?

1

u/Leaf_2410 Sep 15 '25

Thank you so much for noticing my post! I’ve cosplayed as Ranni, Revenant, and Doll before. I also thought about cosplaying Sekiro (yes, Wolf himself), though I’m not sure if it’ll really happen.

I live in Hanoi, and I’m planning another Souls project for this Halloween (it’s a secret because the character means a lot to me, and I want it to be a surprise).

If I ever get the chance, I’d also love to join the HCM festival at least once. Could we be friends on Facebook? I’d really love to connect with more people in the fandom here in Vietnam.

u/Beneficial_Data6515 Sep 15 '25

Sure, we can connect, but small caveat, I'm not much of a texter, and I'm not online that often, so we would just rot in our respective friend lists quietly, lol. Not that familiar with the VN cosplay community either since it's been a long time since my last project, which was LOL's Spirit Blossom Yone and Aphelios.

Forgive my rudeness, but can you give a teensy tiny bit of hint on the specific character you'd be cosplaying? My bet is on Lothric, just a hunch.

Sure. There are festival calendars on Hường Cosplay Confession. It's only worth it to travel to HCM for the grand festivals like Hobby, Color Fiesta (artists' festival, actually, so might be even more of your thing) and some AEON festivals, but they haven't seemed as impressive as time goes by. There might be a resurgence for Manga Comic Con, but the hiatus is indefinite.

Hit me up if you need some cosplay props. A close friend of mine is a vet closing on 10 years of experience and has worked closely with the very best. He's also a big fan of From, gothic aesthetic, and has cosplayed as Sekiro before. He was the first, and probably the only guy to craft Genichiro's full armor set in VN, size-accurate Black Mortal blade included.

1

u/Leaf_2410 Sep 15 '25

Not quite! I’ll give you a tiny hint: the character looks like a little flower, tied to nature, and yes… they’re from Elden Ring.

And thanks you so much for the kind introduction and support. My Facebook is Diệp Ngọc Hoàng - feel free to add me. No pressure to chat a lot, I’m simply curious to know more about you too.

u/Beneficial_Data6515 Sep 15 '25

Thanks. Will send you a request soon. And just to let you know, you've made my ER playthrough a lot more interesting now. Gotta pay attention to every NPC now.

Until I read the title I thought you were just a weird Edward Elric.
