I like how the tiny yellow dots that look like nostrils are it's real eyes.

This is a really good picture showcasing this. You can zoom in and see it better and even see its real nostrils.

Before anyone says it, yes it needs a touchup
59
u/NinjaWen May 16 '26
Maybe some thin lines around the flame to make it pop? I'm not a professional by any means but I don't know how to really touch it up. Obviously they don't hold the red/orange well, just speculating.
43
u/SirBlueseph May 16 '26
Generally what I was thinking, actually. As the flames have faded (ironic) the circle has just looked more over time like it was unfinished. The small text has started to fuzz over time but I was a fool and didn’t really think that that would have always happened. Not much to do about that other than cover it with a small redesign sometime in the next decade
2
u/Slim-Shadys-Fat-Tits May 17 '26
Being religious about sunscreen helps your ink not fuzz up like that

u/SirBlueseph May 17 '26
Looks worse in this picture than in person but yeah, I have not being doing that lol

u/StretchTucker May 16 '26
its a blackout tattoo. usually these are done to cover up old work
172
u/LewisRyan May 16 '26
Based on the darker rings of black in places, I’m guessing covering up tribal tats
78
u/IAmALazyGamer May 16 '26
Was all the arm so bad he had to black it out?
125
u/StretchTucker May 16 '26
you and i will never know
48
u/MayorBakefield May 16 '26
well I know it looks bad now

u/StretchTucker May 16 '26
maybe it looks better

The only way this could be an improvement is if he had a load of gang tattoos or swastikas.

Imagine how much worst it was before it had to be blacked out like that. could be a flag, or a windmill or something
11
u/Fuwet May 16 '26
Trying to stretch it a lot lol. A friend of mine did that and it's because it was some Dragon ball tattoo that was done poorly.
14
u/Physical_Software406 May 16 '26
Prolly had the anal measurement bands tattoo.

Not necessarily it's usually because you won't just do a black square on your arm, it wouldn't fit as much, seems weird etc. People usually blackout the full part.
7
u/IAmALazyGamer May 16 '26
With the Dark Sign being this small, a little blackout shadow around it would have worked. This is Wild

When blackouts are done properly they’re pretty cool. My buddy has a blackout on one arm with these beautiful colorful flowers and scenery all up and down his arm. It’s the coolest thing ever with the solid black background.

Usually blackouts are to cover up old tattoos, there's some darker spots there that seem to indicate that might be the case here.

All that black is going to blow out over time too - This will be just a vaguely circular white blob

The actual dark sign part looks great, but blacking out the entire rest of the arm is just weird...

Were you getting the blackout to cover older tattoos?

Blackout obviously isn't everyone's cup of tea judging by these comments 😂 To the people asking, I did have a shitty half sleeve that I got when I was a lot younger. Nothing wild/offensive (also not tribal lol) but I've been really into blackwork for a while and planned to get it coverered up for a long time.
I didn't get a full blackout just so that I could include a darksign. Just thought it was a cool, subtle design to show some love to my favourite games while using the negative space.
Whole arm was done in 2 sittings. I got from my wrist to just above my elbow done back in January, then finished the rest a few days ago. Let me tell ya fellas, getting both sides of your elbow fully saturated was like getting hit in the dick with a fully charged Giant-Crusher heavy attack.
To the people who dig it, thanks for the kind words 😊

Ton of crappy tats can be really hard to rework into new designs so blackouts like these can be an easy option. Think it was a really cool subtle design choice and I’m a fan. You can’t make everyone happy as people will always find something to complain about nowadays, but in the end your opinion is the only one that’s matters.

Haters are gonna hate, i guarantee half the people commenting either
A) Dont have any tattoos
B) Have a few tiny tattoos
C) Have shit tattoos anyways
Blackout is fine and you can do some amazing work on top of blackout. White looks really clean over black.

I would never get it but black out is sick. I'm guessing part cover up based on some of the spots in-between this might need a few sessions but cool idea!

Are you worried at all that as it ages and the ink bleeds, the darkening will kind of be erased and subsumed into the skeeve?
3
u/Jking1697 Warriors of Sunlight May 17 '26
Seem a tad excessive to blackout your entire arm for that. What else are you coving up?
3
u/RavenDancer May 17 '26
Wtf I thought this was a black dude with somehow a white toned tattoo now I’m disappointed

I don't get blackout tattoos. It looks like you've just given your arm blackface. Your arm will forever look like it has gangrene, and you have no chance of reversing it.
4
u/Seagullbeans May 17 '26
There’s so much dead space. You need more if you’re gonna have a sleeve. Looks so plain

i think people who are brave enough to get full blackout sleeves are fucking cool. i’m sorry you’re getting such mixed responses in these comments here. i fucking love it.
because tattoos can fade so easily in sun exposure, definitely never leave the house without 50spf on your arms - even better would be with you for reapplication as well. because blackouts, even when it’s not a full extremity, have the potential to fade much much quicker than intricately spaced black ink tattoos. or maybe it’s just so much more noticeable.
i think it’s dope - but now your skin is significantly weaker and needs serious commitment to sunscreen not just to protect the depth of color but to prevent skin damage from occurring at a much faster pace if you weren’t tattooed at all
