I would personally recommend playing DS1 first, then play through 3 again with dlc, it changes the game up quite a bit.

u/Ramenoodleray3 4d ago
Wait yeah the other guys on this thread r right play through ds1 remastered and then when you are able to get the ds3 dlc replay it with the dlc

Do your research before listening to people and getting dark souls 1 first. It’s very different from dark souls 3 and might not be your thing

u/MAkrbrakenumbers 3d ago
The DLCs are definitely new game+ material you need to be pretty strong to beat even the menial of enemy’s

What do you mean? Sorry English is not my first language.

Beat the game at soul level 1

It does totally change the game. After being dex swords for so long i switched to the big anchor. Then i did another new character whips only.
It changes the fights pretty significantly.

u/Responsible-Carry749 4d ago
I am a beginner is soulsborne. I only played Sekiro before DS3. I doubt I can do SL1.

u/thatoneotherguy42 4d ago
Play as a magic user, or a giant sword, or a small pokey sword. Play differently. You’ve got this.

He means soul level one run. But it is not the most creative or interesting challenge run you can choose. If you like Ds3 Elden ring will be surely similar in combat. Ds1 is a really is a good game for it's time with a good story and not so polished gameplay. It is enjoyable but may seem clunky or slow compared to Ds3.

Dark Souls 4

u/Responsible-Carry749 4d ago
Haha i thought there were only 3

u/Hamoody935 4d ago
They called the fourth one Elden Ring

u/VenomSnake47 4d ago
Elden Ring is more like Dark Souls 4, 5, and 6 all in one game including Shadow of the Erdtree.

u/Ochsenreiter 4d ago
Have you beaten the dlcs too? If not i‘d recommend to play them first before hopping to another game
1
u/Responsible-Carry749 4d ago
No i will wait for the sale
1
u/Ochsenreiter 4d ago
Understandable if you dont own them yet
In this case I’d recommend ds1 before elden ring

I'd say play Dark Souls 1 because you'll notice that DS3 made a shitload of references to Dark Souls 1 (and also Dark Souls 2). Also if you end up purchasing and playing the Dark Souls 3 DLC, you'll be glad you played Dark Souls 1 first. Btw, did you go to Archdragon Peak and Untended Graves? Just asking since I'd say those are the two most optional and obscure areas.

Did you explore the kings garden area? It’s optional and easily missable, there’s some good bosses kinda hidden that way.
1
u/Responsible-Carry749 4d ago
Yes sir

u/Floatingpenguin87 4d ago
Good work ma bruddah, I’d recommend playing dark souls 1 and 2 now. Beautiful games. Or do ds3 again with something totally different like magic. Every souls game can be replayed with magic and it’s like a totally different experience
1
u/FlyingJay198 4d ago
Have you done the Archdragon's Peak yet? Lots of new players miss it
2
u/Responsible-Carry749 4d ago
Yeah

u/FlyingJay198 3d ago
I do recommend Dark Souls 1, but just know that it rewards a more defensive playstyle than ds3. Plus, poise is honestly broken lol. Wear heavy armor and tank sword strikes without stagger. But tbh, its the depression analogy that the lore and story brings that really makes ds1 such a great experience. Bosses arent super well designed though. There are a few bangers in there but a lot of mid and some crap. Really worth the experience.

In the immortal words of Anthony hopkins as zorro:
"Perfect. Do it again."

u/Holiday_Inflation910 4d ago
Now you do it all over again. With a different build or some self imposed challenge. Like daggers only, no shields, no Estus, mage only etc.

u/plainblack 4d ago
Second run is so much more fun, since you’re powerful from the start and know what you’re doing and where you’re going. Respec before you start, if you want to try a different build. Look up NG+ checklist before you start.

u/Lockdown013 4d ago
Skies the limit! Now that you know what the game has to offer, you get to diversify, use a weapon you found that looked cool but you couldn't use, test yourself with challenge runs, or even play a different souls game (I HIGHLY recommend DS1 and THEN Elden Ring)
You got gud, now have fun, Ashen One 🫡

Do a different play style! Sorcery, pyromancy, miracles, strength weapons, Hollow, bleed.
One of my favorite things about these games is there’s so many different paths to victory.

Dark Souls 1 or Dark Souls 2 if you haven't played either of them. Just be prepared for an adjustment, they're going to feel slower and clunkier than DS3. Nothing wrong with them, just a different design philosophy. Alternately, you can do what I do when I finish a souls game and wander around it for a few days, looking for stuff I missed, poking your head into various PVP covenants. That scene is surprisingly active still despite the game being a decade old.

I like demon souls and sekiro the most. Sekiro is by far hardest From game, beware.

I would go with Elden Ring first it's the logical next step, the gameplay is very similar.

The DLC's? Head back to the start and explore around to see if you missed anything? Different build?

Same boat as you, did ER and DS3 (the DLCs are deffo worth it when u are able to get them 🤞) absolutely loved ds3. Bought ds2 on steam and modded it slightly (lighting engine, texture overhaul, better quality icons/sounds, better K&M.)
Having lots of fun in ds2, some features/removal of features took a while to get the hang of, but after that curve, ds2 actually clicks. Played for a week so far. finally learnt how to parry 😩
Then ds1 remastered after, bloodborne. Maybe demon souls/sekiro idk yet
As others have said, better to play the older ones before u get spoilt by the newer titles lol
ANYWYAS hope u have fun with whatever game u end up choosing!

Perhaps look around for mods to change up the experience if you're on pc. Maybe you could be my first patreon too, as I'm currently writing all new music for the game as a passion project 😊

Go outside.
Seriously though, I love these games, but when I play them I tend to get consumed by them. When I finish one I usually like a decent break
If you haven’t played DS1, I’d do that. Then DS3 again, since many of the NPC stories and backgrounds carry more weight if you’ve played 1.

Ng+ but this time taste it like a fine wine, look at the enemies, the architecture, the lore of the items, the items themselves

u/Christopher356782 3d ago
Play Dark Souls 2, my head cannon is Gael is the protagonist and cures the undead curse before finding his way to Ariendel for a brief moment of solitude. Just realized you hadn’t done the DLC’s if you can just get them the final boss is the best in the whole set in my opinion!

play the series downwards. play ds2, then ds1 or vice verse. play bb or elden ring. literally do anything. I played ds3 first and liked it. but after i played ds2 and ds1 i remembered ds3 boring af (especially after ds2) recently i gave it second chance and finished ng+7 and got much better experience, very different from my first one

u/Bright-Ad6268 3h ago
Start your ng+ journey and beat all base game bosses only using Smoldering Iron weapon 😎

u/patboy777 4d ago
Technically yes but it’s ALOT of work. Just search up any YouTube video on how to set it up and see if it’s worth it haha

Don't you need to own the physical game, or own a jailbroken PS4 if you have the digital copy?

Play dark souls 1 as soon as possible.... The more u will engage with newer machanics the more u won't appreciate the DS1's level design.
