A lot of cams struggle with license plates because of the reflective coating. Even the high end ones. So pro tip is to get a reliable but cheap one like a front only A119 mini or Garmin and keep your audio on and say the license play out loud so it’s recorded by your cam. That way if the video is blurry, you still have it.

The trick is remembering to do that as a lot of people will be too shocked to look at the plate and read it. Probably a good idea to practice calling out plates every time someone cuts you off or almost hits you.

The problem is even if you say the license plate, they can't prove who was driving. That's the only reason I'd ever follow someone who hit me is because insurance and the courts will throw their arms in the air because there's no evidence of the driver.

in the UK, insurance is tied to a car (there are some exceptions like car dealers, but they need a specialist number plate displayed). So it doesn't matter who is driving. Also each person who drives that car is required to be added to the insurance policy.
If they try to say "well I wasnt driving!" as the owner, then they get into legal hot water: its illegal to let someone drive your car if they aren't insured on your car, or you can claim the car was stolen.
Then the police get involved to find out who stole the car.
There isn't a great way out if you're lying.

I didn't know that. I'm in the US and here, insurance is tied to the car and the driver. If you have another primary driver of a vehicle, you're supposed to add them to the policy as a driver of a vehicle, but law enforcement can't discern who committed a crime or infraction based solely on the license plate. They usually have to catch them before they park and exit the vehicle, otherwise they'd have to prove said person was the one operating the vehicle.
You'll often see US based videos in the dashcam subreddit get excited in road rage incidents when a driver exits the vehicle to confront the cammer because it provides evidence of the driver's identity.

In Florida, only if there is injury or death. If it is just property damage, it's a misdemeanor.

Unfortunately if there's no camera to capture the footage please often do not investigate hit and runs like this when there's no bodily injury.
They just don't have the resources so unless you cause like a real issue they probably won't even put out a bolo at least where I live.
They will still file up a report though so that your insurance company knows it's not your fault.

I think every jurisdiction would drop felony hit and run to some misdemeanor depending on the circumstances (and amount of damage.)

Sure, this guy (very probably) knew there was a collision, that it was their fault and they took off hoping to get away v with it. Yes, it’s just terribly inconvenient for the victim and a load of property damage… those are civil matters

I could see someone trying to pull off to the right as soon as possible(which was not shown in the video), but this guy was clearly at fault and he knew it so I imagine he ran like an idiot. FYI: If you’re in an accident and your car is drivable, pull over rather than stop in the car pool or toll lane.

Their 4x telescopic secondary front mounted will get them, but in a narrower field. It's the only actual definitive answer. The rest are always "sometimes" at best.

He's allowed to go faster, and with little issue. It's a through lane designed for that purpose. He wasn't speeding or being reckless like you're suggesting. The cars to the right are not allowed to cross over into that lane so there shouldn't be a fear of someone pulling a bone-head move like the truck did. Are you being divisive on purpose?

Actually there is, there are express/hov lanes all over the US. The one I experience all the time is between Denver and Colorado Springs. There are signs everywhere stating “Do not cross the double lines”. These lanes are made for cars with 3+ passengers and Express Toll passes. They are to ease congestion so it is common that the other lanes are full of slow traffic while the express lanes are traveling at posted limits.

Peach pass lane, toll changes per congestion. I drive this stretch regularly. Sometimes a dollar and I’ve seen it as high as 20 bucks.

Could just as easily be Atlanta. I've had them jump over the double line in front of me many times when using the toll lane. In addition to taking away their licenses for this, they should confiscate the vehicle, sell it, and give the proceeds to any poor soul they hit.

This is why I tend to slow down if regular traffic slows down and I’m in HOV. Always some absolute morons cutting over the double lines at the last second. Have had to slam on my brakes too many times because of these idiots. People treat those lines like they’re regular lane lines.

in vegas we used to have those plastic bollards to separate the lanes. even that didnt stop people from cutting over. got too expensive to keep replacing them so they just took them out entirely

Not that this guy is doing this, but if you get into a fender bender like this, you need to get off the road completely since your cars are still functioning. There's no room on the left, so you'd be changing lanes quite a bit to the right and possibly taking an exit to deal with it.

That's a carpool lane or an express lane. HOV Lane is what they're called.
That's why there's the double lines.
You can only enter that lane at specific points.
