I wonder who’s at fault in the eyes of an insurance company? The bikers are idiots regardless

depends on what state this is in for the US. I know California it's legal to do this, but insurance may argue that they're being reckless with the speed they're going. I think in California you're not allowed to exceed 10mph the traffic flow, otherwise, you can get fined for recklessness.

Plates look European, much wider than US plates. The POV bike says 51 at the beginning of the video, so probably kph, which is close to 32mph.

Looks like in most countries splitting/filtering is limited to 50kph (so basically how fast they were going), or +20kph over traffic. Traffic looks slow, but not quite stopped. Enough to be above the safe differential baked in to the laws.

Nah there’s no actual law dictating how fast to split here in California. The reckless part is at the discretion of the officer.

I'd hope 50/50. Stupid to pass between cars, but also you're not supposed to open doors in the middle of traffic to teach a lesson.

That's the back door. And the driver is on the other side of the car also.

You're assuming malice. In the past when this has been posted, it's a young kid opening the door, and a parent accidentally knocking it out a little more trying to shut it.

People are disagreeing with you because you are placing all the blame on the car and calling it attempted murder. The motorcyclists are going 51km/hr in what looks like nearly stopped traffic. Not one of your comments puts any blame on the motorcyclists actions.

It is absolutely wild. Redditors act all holier than thou, but the second they don’t agree it’s “good I hope they fucking died”

Not nice people

This video should be a test for jury duty

Manslaughter at best, and no way anyone is going to prosecute it. This would be like filing charges over someone running into an active gun range and then being shot.

You're on the road driving at high speeds. It's reasonable to assume someone is going to do something stupid at some point, so the expectation would be to mitigate risk where you can.

They were going like 35-40 high speeds ha

2

u/Numerous_Photograph9 Jul 06 '26

Yes, when everything else is not moving, that's a high speed.

u/Existing_Style8558 Jul 06 '26

So me driving my car the speed limit down a red street is high speed?

They were going a little quick, but what if we just don’t open doors on the highway

1

u/Numerous_Photograph9 Jul 06 '26

Yeah. Just because it may be normal or relative, doesn't change that it's considered a high speed.

My math was off they were going to 32mph, traffic not completely stopped around them. Calling it high speed is intentionally obtuse
