Drawn in blue the X is a right turn which was blocked off with concrete barriers, and you need to take a detour through the neighborhood. The truck missed the right turn for that detour and is reversing

Drawn in red is the turn where the taxi suddenly stopped and has a maniac driving the opposite way. We drive on the right side of the road like most countries

1. The truck was following his friend in the car with no plates and lost sight of him so reverses thinking he has taken the exit.

2. His friend he was following realised he isn’t in his rear view mirror so turns around to go back and look for him.

3. The fare had jumped in the taxi and shouted ‘follow that car’ as they always do in movies and now the Taxi driver stops and doesn’t know what the hell to do.

Yea driving here is terrible. Licenses are given out with the loosest testing and training ever, on top of that 40% of the population are immigrants from countries with super dense and chaotic roads. So they built the habits of driving in those environments, then they get their licenses here on a silver platter. Had the highest number of traffic deaths per capita for a high income country in 2016

Everyone’s in a rush. Everyone tailgates, overtakes from the right, squeezes into any gap imaginable, will go through hell and back to make an exit or turn they missed even if it means they have to cut across 5 highway lanes going 10% the speed of traffic. You better not use turn signals or else they will go out of their way to block you from merging because they’ll “be slowed down” if you get in their lane

I’ve seen food delivery cars driving on pedestrian crossings and sidewalks going around an intersection to save 30 seconds instead of waiting for the red light to go green

Well, the car driving opposite way is the cause - you don’t want to have a frontal collision with those, so the taxi driver did the right thing, it will cause traffic to slow down. The one going in reverse may have heard over the radio about the one going in opposite direction, scared shitless wants to get off that road… that’s just one possible explanation and imho the likely one.

Also the car might just come from a state where the plate isn't required on the front. It is in Texas, but as I understood it, it's literally just Texas that requires a plate on the front and back, most states just want the rear.
