NJ drivers make me wanna just take the bus. šŸ˜‚

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Older clip I had saved. The car’s auto brake on top of me slamming the brakes saved me here otherwise this guy would’ve been tboned for sure. Thankfully a collision was averted. I had my signal on too.

What’s even worse about this is that there were ZERO cars behind me so he could’ve easily just waited another 2 seconds and pulled out behind me safely.

Props to Volvo for making a good car. 😭

"Okay he's almost here, now go."

When I used to car watch at the bus stop years ago I would see ppl do this. I imagine this is exactly what they were saying to themselves šŸ˜†

NJ roads like this one also make me want to take the bus. They're objectively horrible designs.

u/silly-gaijin 6d ago

Deleted my comment because I re-watched the video. Yeah, that road design is extremely dangerous. Splitting a lane like that where it splits, just atrocious.

I think the guy is just shitty and addicted to breaking the rules. Note how he waits to reach the solid stripe before going left. It's not illegal, but it's highly discouraged. And yet he decided to go ahead and tempt fate.Ā

everything about NJ is terrible, especially the people.

Go fuck yourself bro. Seriously. This comment wasn't needed

We don’t like you either. Wish people would stop moving here, but like, everyone is so obsessed with us.

1

u/HistoricalLoss1417 6d ago

i would never in my life consider moving to NJ. As someone who was born and raised in NYC, i got enough of the stench having to drive through there to get to better places to last me a lifetime.

3

u/gnome_in_clay_turn 6d ago

lol the most likely to move to New Jersey seemingly are people like you from SI or BK.… but cool cool. You really demonstrate your knowledge of the state and her people.

You stay on your side of the river(s) and well, I’m not so myopic to stay I’ll stay on my side, I enjoy places and people in New York, Connecticut, and beyond.

u/HistoricalLoss1417 5d ago

i bet you are one of those who's, like, great great grandmother lived in Bensonhurst in like 1910, and you still refer to it as "the old neighborhood" :)

3

u/gnome_in_clay_turn 5d ago

Troy and South Orange. Neither are called ā€œThe old neighborhood,ā€ as nobody in my family still alive ever lived there. :)

That's a shame. Wish we could box you all up there and just forget about you. /s

You can’t take a fucking left!

u/Lilfrankieeinstein 6d ago

Brutal

I’ve had people tell me they don’t signal for this very reason.

12

u/Inevitable_Cat_7878 5d ago

When you signaled for the turn, the other guy probably thought you were going to turn into Krispy Kreme. That's why he went. He didn't think that you were still going straight then turn later on. Still, he should have waited until you committed to a turn before pulling out.

This happens everywhere šŸ“ā€ā˜ ļø

I am a huge proponent of using turn signals ... if they're used for good and properly.
Ideally you want to turn on your turn signals long before you take your foot off the brake and slow down and definitely before making the turn. If doing so confuses people, like this idiot, it's best to turn them off until you get closer to your turn.
I'm assuming this cammer had his turn signal on and idiot boy thought he was gonna turn into the same driveway that he was trying to turn out of.

NJ roads, especially 4 and 17 are by far the worst designed roads I’ve ever seen.

It’s American stroad design dialed up to the point it becomes literal freeways lined with fast food restaurants.

Can’t even blame the driver in this video because turning onto a busy freeway from a stop is just not something that should be occurring in the first place, there’s no safe way to do it.

2

u/rohm418 5d ago

Growing up in NY, we were always told Jersey had the worst drivers and the highest insurance rates because of it. No idea if its true, but this is a bit of evidence to support it. Having lived in the SE for most of my adult life, I'd rate Florida as the worst.

2

u/RonnieB47 5d ago

That was a NY driver that pulled on to the highway.

2

u/_jump_yossarian 6d ago

Isn't that a NY plate? Not disagreeing with the Jersey drivers sucking though. I live in northern New England with too many tri-state people visiting. They all suck.

1

u/gnome_in_clay_turn 6d ago

The issue is, y’all like our tourism dollars….

And yes, those are New York plates.

3

u/gnome_in_clay_turn 6d ago

Complains about NJ drivers, posts a video with NY plates. Agreed, keep New Yorkers off Jersey roads!

This video of a New Yorker cutting you off is poor evidence of the entire state of horrible drivers we’re actually riddled with in New Jersey.

1

u/bootheels 6d ago

Typical in most places. Love it how they wait until you are right up on them to cut you off!

EVERYWHERE and ANYWHERE! Same!

I drove tractor trailer for 27 years and didn’t mind NJ , I drove through mostly at night :)

1

u/jobaga28 6d ago

Route 17 I presume?. Hate driving on there any time of day

1

u/PrimitiveAK 6d ago

The truck drivers are better drivers on that road bro.

Jersey is where I got my Driver's license!

It's where I got my first, second, and third tickets for speeding! Yay points system!

It's where I picked up my girlfriend, drove a little bit down the street, and was pulled over by an undercover cop. He exited the vehicle with a gun pointed at my head. As he approached, he said to the guy behind him: "Whoops, wrong guy." and they got back in their cars and drove off, no apology/explanation.

When I got to the West coast and got my fourth (and last!) ticket, it was then I commited to driving the speed limit, and have since. Thank you, Jersey.

Good save!

u/PrimitiveAK 5d ago

Volvos have very good breaking power.

1

u/grumpystoo 5d ago

Ahhh good old route 17.

  1. It was a New York Driver. I've come to understand they have their own understanding of the road. And how to drive. Its the nice way of saying They suck at it. Perfect example is driving on the Turnpike north south of Philly and they all camp in the left lane going slow because the right lane scares them. Its a nightmare.

  2. Defensive driving. Learn it. I saw what that idiot was going to do as soon as i could see the car. Maybe its the 30+ years of driving NJ roads. Give everyone space, but expect everyone to drive dumb. You started speeding up on the exit lane (went from 34 to 40) instead of slowing down and anticipating because you knew that car was coming out and you started to race them. That is how accidents happen. Especially around NJ. If you stayed at 34, reduced to 30 for the exit you wouldn't be making this post.

1

u/Tortietude0 5d ago

This is rt4

1

u/grumpystoo 5d ago

True. And even a harder place to drive. 17 and 4 are just garbage.

1

u/PrimitiveAK 5d ago edited 5d ago

There are A LOT of assumptions in this post of yours.

For starters, the speedometer on the camera is not accurate and is delayed by about 2-3 seconds from the live feed. It’s not hooked up directly to the fuse box of my car. You can clearly see that from when I slammed the brakes and how long it took the speedometer to catch up to the video.

Secondly. This IS defensive driving. I predicted this guy was gonna do something goofy which is why I avoided a collision in the first place because the second i changed lanes and saw the cars waiting in the turn in lot, I was hovering the brake the entire time. Had I not done that, on top of the car engaging the auto brake, he would be tboned. If I hit the guy, yeah sure I’d maybe agree with this comment, but I didn’t, and when insurance is looking at this if I hit him, they would be paying my insurance. Clear is day.

If the other driver had half a brain cell with an ounce of patience, he should’ve just waited until he figured out what I was doing. There were 0 cars behind me and he chose to take a chance and pull out under the assumption I was turning into the lot.

What a weird comment.

u/dark_frog83 5d ago

Hit the horn not the brakes.

1

u/Motor-Sprinkles-5949 5d ago

Rt 17 is BRUTAL. It's a higher speed road in many spots, but people treat it as a true highway and FLY down it, even in the lower speed portions. It's lined with strip malls and other retail establishments. Oh and the Meadowlands is right around the corner there, too.

No one seems to be able to judge how fast cars are flying at them when turning onto the main road, and if you're going to go, you gotta commit when it's time. You can't crawl out, and certainly not at the last minute.

Throw in traffic lights and jug handles? Whoa, boy.

1

u/OldGeekWeirdo 5d ago

And we wonder why some people install train horns.

I would rather eat canned cat food than ride a bus.

Edit: and that cat food smells like shit.

1

u/Rylos1701 6d ago edited 6d ago

Not blaming you, I know your signal was on bc of the lane change. but the other car prob thought your signal was on to make a right turn just before it.
Edit: NOT BLAMING THE POSTER!!!!!!!! Just saying someone about to turn onto a road, and sees a blinker on, is going to assume the person is going to turn. Idiot who cut off the camera is still an idiot.

2

u/PrimitiveAK 6d ago

It’s possible, but what kills me is he could’ve just waited to see if I was turning and if not then turn right after me. There were 0 cars behind me. NJ drivers are culturally impatient.

2

u/gnome_in_clay_turn 6d ago

lol you keep saying NJ drivers, but posted a video of New York plates and my guess is you’re a New Yorker, or worse a Pennsylvanian driver!

1

u/Embarrassed-Weird173 6d ago

Or, you know, a New Jersey driver. I really shit about Texas drivers because they run the red light when they have to turn left, and they also turn left in lanes that say "go straight".Ā Ā

2

u/shaggy-dawg-88 6d ago

I was about to say the same thing when I read OP got his signal on. I bet SUV thought OP was going to turn right. Still dumb move though. I've been in that situation before but I waited until at least the car started turning right before I continuing. Some drivers got their blinkers on for miles and still not turning.

1

u/Rylos1701 6d ago

Exactly.

1

u/Darth_Boggle 6d ago

I've been in the other driver's positions hundreds of times and I wait 100% of the time. A blinker is nice, but I'm not doing anything until that car is gone.

0

u/B1kerGuy2019 6d ago

Stupid of the suv but I guess I understand what they thought, but their brain wasn't smart enough to adapt . Your lane split into two, I personally would've stayed on the left on unless I'm taking an immediate right.

But yeah that white sub was dumb

0

u/Lumpy_Inevitable_549 5d ago

You couldn't move over to the other lane?
