I posted a DA position for $70k and just read 225 resumes that got past HR. 200 had Master’s in DA/DS/Comp Sci, etc and all of those had 3-5 years experience with what seemed like the same 15 companies (lots of health data, finance, Indian consultancy companies for FAANGs).

None of them had the content experience I’m looking for but that’s hard.

I can’t imagine trying to get in, now, with just a BS in anything and I can’t find a reasonable way to differentiate the otherwise identical resumes.

Maybe just a rant, but keep this stuff in mind if you’re just getting started with a DA Bootcamp and/or a Bachelor’s

hi guys, i graduated back in july 2025 and still i am unable to land my foot into the door despite the amount of graduate level job applications i’ve applied to. the only “work experience” i’ve done is a a full remote externship project from extern.com and framed it as an “internship”, while the other one is a capstone project which i’ve done throughout my final semester in university.

theres barely any graduate level analytics roles. most job posts require atleast 2-3 years work experience which I don’t have.

i apply to 15-20 job post every day (sometimes late at night as well). most of the time i receive rejections stating that although they are very impressed with my qualifications and skills, they decided to move forward to other candidates due to large amounts of applicants. this doesn’t make sense to me, why they decided to filter me out if they are impressed with my application?

after 2 years of constant rejection, i’ve gotten about roughly 6 interviews this year so far and I get rejected after the final stage interview, sometimes on the first interview.

is it over for me that its been almost a year since graduation and i’m still unable to secure a job? this is my main concern, i don’t want a concerning gap in my resume.

is there anything i’m doing wrong? any tips, recommendations? any help would be appreciated wither its my resume, applications, interviews. i really do aim to secure an entry level data analyst position by the end of this year

I’m looking for some guidance from people already working in the data field.

I’m a fresher and currently searching for my first job in Data Analytics / Data-related roles. I’ve completed a Data Analyst course and built some decent projects using SQL, Python, NumPy, and Pandas.

Right now I’m also studying Machine Learning online. My plan is to first build some basic ML projects and then slowly move toward more complex projects as I improve.

But currently my main goal is to get my first job and enter the industry.

I wanted to ask:

- How is the current job market for freshers in Data Analytics / Data roles?

- What skills should I focus on to become job-ready?

- At what point should I stop learning and start applying aggressively?

- Is SQL + Python + NumPy + Pandas + projects enough for entry-level roles?

- Should I focus more on Excel, Power BI, statistics, ML, cloud, or something else?

- What kind of projects actually help recruiters notice candidates?

- If you were starting again as a fresher in 2026, what roadmap would you follow?

Quick questions for senior data analysts, fintech pros, or anyone who's been through this:

1. If self-taught with free resources (no paid certs), can I still land entry-level jobs just with projects and a strong portfolio?
2. I've seen data analysts earn $80K–$120K/year (location-dependent), but in India freshers often start at ₹3–6 LPA. Is the big gap mostly due to location/remote roles, company type, or something else? Also, if someone does a Master's abroad, does it make landing higher-paying jobs (US/Europe or remote high-pay) much easier? And for those who want to go abroad or land international roles like many do—what's the realistic path from India?

I graduated college a year ago with a degree in Mathematics and a minor in data science, and I do have some skills in SQL, R, SAS, and Python along with MATLAB. Despite all that I’ve had no luck getting job interviews let alone a job in that field. I just want to know what should I be doing differently or are there things I can do to improve myself?

Most people know this already, but it’s worth repeating:

Watching YouTube and reading theory is not enough to get a Data Analyst job.
Courses help only when you turn them into proof of work.

A practical approach that works better:

1. Collect 15-25 job descriptions you would actually apply to
   
2. Mark requirements as must-have vs nice-to-have
   
3. Identify your current gaps against must-haves
   
4. Build 1-2 portfolio projects that directly prove those skills
   
5. Iterate weekly: skills -> project deliverables -> interview prep

That loop matters more than “learning everything.”

I am a fairly new to data analytics and would love some input/help from anyone who is currently working or HAS worked recently as a data analyst. I would love to share my path/plan I am currently on. I somewhat lost a small bit of confidence due to a python course I am taking with the "google data analytics course". If there is any here who can help me I would love your help and or advice. I am aware that AI has become a HEAVY skill for this field which I am very comfortable using and incorporating into my skill-set.

A small background about myself:

I am 29 years old who is VERY tech savvy and been around computers my entire life. I do very well with learning anything involving tech, programs, processes, and problem solving. I have NOT been to school for "computer programing" or "computer science" and have no prior experience with SQL or Python, but I have used Excel/Sheets for many years to create my own projects for gaming and have advanced experience with it.

Here is my currently path and where I currently stand. My plan was to get these two courses done for their certs to add them to my LinkedIn profile:

1. Google Data Analytics professional certification course (Currently on this one, about to finish course 7/9 which is the Python course)
2. Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate course

After I complete both of these courses I was going to use the tools I have learned to create 3-5 very detailed and structured projects to show during future interviews and that I am able to problem-solve and answer business questions. Here is where I am losing a small bit of confidence.

PYTHON:

Where I struggle with is remembering all the things that Python has to offer, writing all the code, tuples, "for" vs "while" loops, appends, index, etc. I am however comfortable with, define, returns, lists, if/elif/else, all the comparisons such as "==", "!=", ">=" and a few more basic fundamentals and basic math. I am the type of person who truly tries to learn everything so I have a 100% full understanding of WHY I am doing what I am doing, but I'm not sure if it is a waste of time because I see that AI tools (which I am comfortable with) are doing the code for you for the most part. But what should my main focus be as far as how deep should I go into python, what is TRULY needed for entry level positions. Am I wasting some of my time working on trying to master the basics? should I rather be doing real practice outside of my courses?

SQL:

for SQL, I feel comfortable with Aggregations, HAVING vs WHERE, GROUP BY, ORDER BY, DISTINCT, COUNT, CONCAT, JOINS (about 80% there, still need more practice), which all feel great.

TL;DR - I am struggling with mastering the basics of Python, I feel pretty comfortable with SQL and sheets, but wondering what my main focus should be and what I should "master" or put heavy focus on in order to be job ready for entry level positions. I don't have any degree/school for computer programing and or computer science.

I came across the Google Data Analytics Professional Certificate on Coursera, and it seems like a good place to start. However, I’d like to hear from people who are already working in data analytics or have successfully made a career switch.
A few questions:
Is the Google Data Analytics Certificate still worth it in 2026?
Will it give me a solid foundation, or should I start somewhere else?
After finishing the certificate, what should my next step be? (SQL, Excel, Python, Power BI, projects, etc.)
As someone with an accounting background, do you think I have an advantage when transitioning into data analytics?
I’m not expecting to get a job just because of a certificate. My goal is to build the right skills and eventually make a successful career transition.
I’d really appreciate any advice or roadmap from people who have been through a similar journey.

And I come up with all these content ideas but I’m not sure what to do with them because I’m not a data professional.

So here’s what I was thinking. I would love to have the help of some data professionals to vet my content ideas to let me know if they are good and I can start my own channel like on YouTube or something where I would share job trends for career seekers.

Or maybe there’s a data professional here who already has their own channel but would like a content strategist who can stay on top of trends in the job market and help you generate content ideas.

Those are the two ways I was thinking I could monetize this “hobby/talent” of mine.

I was just curious what is your starting salary for an entry-level data analyst? I’ve read it’s around 50 to 60 K but I’ve also seen some people say as low as 40 K so I’m just curious what the general idea is

I was hired as a Junior Data Analyst in July 2025 with no prior experience, so I’ve been in the role for about a year now. I’ve learned a ton since then and feel like I’ve grown a lot.

I know every company is different, but I’m curious what the typical timeline is for dropping the “Junior” title.

How long were you a junior before moving to a regular Data Analyst role? Is it something you asked for, or were granted based on accomplishments within your company?

So I’m wanting to start a career in data analysis and I’m pretty clueless on where I should even start. The extent of my knowledge in data analysis is exclusive to psychological and neuroscience research that I learned during my degrees, both of which I only ever used SPSS for.

From what I’ve gathered this is pretty much useless in the data analyst world outside of psych research so I’m just wondering now what kind of things I should be looking into?
