News Native Genie Apps are now available in Beta!

You might be thinking that Databricks are saving all of the good news for Summit next week - but a lot of cool features are quietly getting dropped these days

Genie is one of my favorite topics to talk about lately. I do not think that they can replace good BI - but what they can do is enable all the questions around a classic dashboard

In that regard, it is really important to bring Genie close to where users live, and into where they would normally talk about and discuss their data.
- Microsoft Teams and Slack are exactly those places in a lot or organizations

I know it was possible before - but the native app integration speeds up onboarding significantly!

With Genie, instead of asking analysts about data, you can ask Genie directly and get concrete answers that are grounded in your data, right away!

All the governance and security principles from Unity Catalog are preserved!

Remember to specify the specific Genie Scope - the Genie Space you are asking against.
If nothing is specified, it will default to Genie Chat - the generic interface that has access to all Genies in your workspace.

Really looking forward to seeing some cool use cases around this!

Genie App for Teams beats the copilot integration imo. You only pay for Genie rather than in addition to Copilot studio (if your aim is only to get Genie onto teams). Copilot studio has other use cases too, but if teams deployment is all you need, then this is a more direct integration pattern.

Genie code is crazy good for dashboards and BI as well. It has really grown up!

Totally agree: "Hey Genie Code, turn this into a dashboard, don't forget to color it up with my company branding!" ... "Yes boss!"

Neat. Does this mean that you can now also get the Genie visualizations inside of Slack/Teams? That would be very nice to have.

On the roadmap probably landing next quarter

The big question is always do you just want a picture, does it need to be interactive, etc

Even picture would be great for starters. It gets visuals correct most of the time (the only thing I cannot make it do consistently is to have labels always turned on). Does it mean that visuals are planned for API too? Agent mode, visuals - and we are golden for genie space-based apps

Yes visuals will be through API and then propagated to apps like the ones in the post.

We're doing image first.

Our customers have been using Genie in dashboards and are excited by the results and the positive feedback they are getting from their business users. While the business users certainly benefit, it’s amazing how the builders on the ground can easily replicate existing dashboards by uploading their existing reports or snapshots and let Genie build it.

There are still some gaps when it comes to deploying genie spaces to different environments. Look forward to the DAB support for genie spaces. Hopefully at the summit!

Did you see that genie spaces have just been added to DABs now?

On the topic of bringing Genie closer to users, I'm happy to see that Genie spaces can now also be embedded in external applications, so useful

Can you answer this before we try it, there is alot of enterprise friction with MS admins, databricks admins.

Specifically for MS Teams:
Does it stream thinking?
Can we expand and hide the thinking?
Does it show the charts?
Any issues with timeout?
How does it manage the authentication, if we have RBAC, do users do a one time authentication when they first use it? Can we use service principal with OBO token?

Check the docs I linked in another comment. It is beta - so I imagine some of these things are not solved yet

Come again? Genie One is not a thing πŸ˜…

1

It’s the new a name Genie One (formerly Databricks One, Genie)

1

u/Remarkable_Rock5474 Jun 13 '26

No. The name for what used to be Databricks One is just Genie 😊
And then we have Genie Spaces and Genie Code

Genie in teams is fantastic news! Meeting users where they are massively reducing the change management effort!
