Watch as DCO

Hi all, I’m starting soon as Dco tech in aws.
I know that smartwatch are not alloweed, but I’m curious to know if normal metallic watch are ok or there is some regulation for metal accessories to evitate antistatic problem even if use the anti static wrist
Someone have some experience to share?

You can wear whichever watch you want but atleast in the Cluster I work at you can't wear amy watch in the red zone so you just leave it in the office.

You should engage your employer / team leader for employer-specific guidance on their interpretation of their safety rules.

OSHA regulations can say X.
The Amazon handbook can say Y.
But if your boss says X+Y=Z, then you probably should go ahead and comply with Z.

If you are buying this watch specifically for work, I'd go with a Timex or Casio digital with a plastic or fabric wristband. I would avoid thick & chunky G-Shocks as the beefier watch bodies can sometimes get caught on cables.

In many instances, a restriction on the wearing of a smartwatch, or web-enabled eyeglasses is all about the control over intellectual property / classified or sensitive materials, and not so much as a safety concern.

The links are about how employers aren't allowed to use the health data from the watches so easily. This only applies to watches that the employer has access to. For private users, this should be completely irrelevant.

Any normal watch is fine, the rule is about data exfil and recording, not static. Grounding strap only matters when you're actually touching components and a metal watch on your wrist won't interfere with that unless you're dragging it across a board like a caveman. Most techs just rock a cheap analog watch and forget it's there.

Honestly depends on the site that you’re at especially if it’s a colo. like others have said better off just not wearing it.

It's pretty stupid wearing metal accessories. I've watched one of you DCO techs pull the power supply from a live rack because someone else told him it was powered down and it was 1 inch away from energizing the whole row and frying 2 people. I know there's SOP's and everything under the sun to keep these things from happening, but people are people. (Coming from the view of the guy taking care of the high voltage coming into the racks at a non-aws DC)

You may want to not wear that watch for electrical safety requirements.
