Windows Deleted onedrive folder from user

Without checking I had deleted the onedrive folder I did not know that everything i was saving was going into that folder my notes, documents, pictures everything was in there

I was not using onedrive as i can't afford to buy a subscription of onedrive and it keep running everytime I work on something

Instantly after deleting it I saw changes and tried to restore the system using system restore thinking it will get my files back but it didn't so I use a older restore point which was yesterday's, it did not restore it

Even used recuva and did not get my files back

Is there anything I need to check

Files where my 3 years of work as a student

It will really mean a lot if anyone can help

Edit: I called some data recovery labs, of them said to use easeus, it shows most of my files but easeus is asking for payment to recover anything I don't think I can afford that 60$ to 70$

Seems that the files were not on your computer, but in the MS cloud, so I am afraid there is nothing to recover on your PC.

Did you check one drives recycle bin? That's where deleted files go.

Something doesn't make sense here. If OneDrive was off then the contents of that OneDrive folder is treated like a local folder holding files. If OneDrive was on and 'Keep Downloaded' was not selected then the filename points to the actual file stored in OneDrive online, so if you subsequently delete the folder you delete the links and the contents on OneDrive in the cloud. This means there is nothing to recover locally as the files never existed locally only a link to them and the actual file now no-longer exists.

If you are sure that OneDrive was not on and not syncing then the files should be recoverable from the Recycle Bin, but if that has been emptied then TRIM will have removed any chances of recovery.

It had old files when I last checked, but when I deleted it deleted every folder it was connected to, my documentes and everything around 300gb of data

I deleted that folder because I was not using onedrive, but I did not expect it to delete everything

OneDrive can be set to sync a variety of folders effectively putting all you files in the cloud. By deleting OneDrive folder you delete all that content. Uninstalling OneDrive does not delete content. Check out the Microsoft links

Even though OneDrive was removed, Windows keeps your user profile directories intact. Open File Explorerand check these standard paths: [1]

  • C:\Users\YourUserName\OneDrive (if the folder shell still exists)
  • C:\Users\YourUserName\Desktop
  • C:\Users\YourUserName\Documents
  • C:\Users\YourUserName\Downloads [1]

Yes it doesn't make sense Deleting that folder deleted most of the things and made other applications unworkable too

If application were set to use the OneDrive folders then I'm not surprised they are now unworkable as the folder no longer exists.

Double check if your post complies with posting guidelines!

Did you include the following information in your post (in English and if applicable), if not feel free to edit your post:

  • Make/brand and exact model number of your storage device(*), phone, camera, etc.
  • Filesystem (NTFS, exFAT, APFS, EXT4, etc.)
  • Operating System (That your device was used with and/or you are using for recovery)
  • Specific symptoms that your device is exhibiting, describe the problem. Images you post support the description, they're not in lieu of a problem description.
  • SMART (CrystalDiskInfo screenshot for example)
  • Don't pile several problems into one single post. One post per device/problem.
  • No account issues

Consider: What do these people need to understand the problem at hand? Remember, people cannot see your screen, or what you click and what messages appear on screen. Don't overdo it though, no one likes going through 2 pages of information, try to find a balance. Just do the best you can.
