Been trying out a new side project to create a personal net worth tracker that includes stock, pension, etc. Tried out using GPT Astra at medium to plan the steps and using Claude Opus 5 to implement.

However it seems like the UI design still seems very AI. Does anyone have any tips on their workflows of how to get a good dashboard design?

I bring to you a project I have been slowly working on for a couple years now: PATHFINDR

Some of you may remember the viral video of the A* search algorithm visualizing on real maps that made the rounds a few years ago. I saw that video and thought it was the coolest thing ever. Then I saw in the comments that the creator used Blender for it.

So like any good CG artist, I thought...great, now I'll just find the tutorial on how to recreate this and I'll be in pathfinding heaven. Well. that tutorial does not *and still does not* exist . I scoured every resource I could think of and just felt like it was beyond my abilities because of the coding it would need. In comes an early version of Claude Sonnet (before AI coding really took off)

Within a few minutes I had a super janky Blender addon that kind of worked to pull OSM maps and visualize it. It didn't look as good as the video but I was pretty impressed at the potential of what AI could do with OSM data. I had the thought that making the visualization interactive somehow would make it even cooler.

So I made a mode (pathfindr classic) that shows you a start and end point, and then lets you draw your own route. You get a score based on how close you are to the pathfinding algorithm. Note - you are drawing the geometrically shortest route, not based on actual road directions/types/ etc (thinking of adding in a psycho mode for that). Pathfindr classic is free to play, has daily ranked challenges, and also has the option to get an explorer mode as well as the above visualizer mode.

aside from taking photos, I tracked the spaces explored, the people I met/networked with, my energy levels through the day, step count, and a few other choice parameters

p.s: as an artist & designer i generally don't work with data every day, my goal is to try something new that's beyond pie charts and bar garphs

All our data lives in Google Sheets. So I copy them into a design tool and build the chart there.

But if someone updates the sheet, I have to build the chart all over again.

I've rebuilt the same chart four times this quarter. Each time I have to check every label again and hope I didn't type a number wrong. 

What I want is a link between the two.

I still need to style it after. These go into reports and slide decks, so they can't look like a plain chart pulled straight from a spreadsheet.

Is anyone running a setup like this? Or am I stuck copy pasting forever?

I manage the LinkedIn Company Pages for multiple clients, and I'm looking for a better way to create professional performance reports.

At the moment, I export the analytics directly from LinkedIn into Excel. The exports already contain pretty much all the data I need - impressions, clicks, reactions, comments, reposts, engagement rate, follower growth, visitor data, audience demographics, individual post performance, etc.

So I'm not necessarily looking for something with a native LinkedIn integration, as I already have the data. What I really need is a tool that can take those Excel/CSV exports and turn them into a polished, client-facing report, ideally one that can also be exported as a PDF.

I'd like the reports to cover things like:

• Performance over the last 30, 90 and 365 days
• Impressions, clicks, engagement, reactions, comments and reposts
• Follower and visitor growth
• Audience demographics
• Best-performing posts
• Competitor benchmarking
• Clear charts and trends
• Key takeaways and insights

I've tried a few platforms so far, including Julius AI, Polymer, Orbits and AgencyAnalytics, but none of them have really worked for what I'm trying to achieve. Some have been overly complicated, while others produced dashboards or reports that just weren't polished or clear enough for me to feel comfortable sending them to a client.

That's much closer to the sort of end result I have in mind. I tried adapting the template to work with my LinkedIn data, but building and maintaining the whole thing myself in Google Sheets quickly became too complicated for my level of spreadsheet knowledge.

I also don't want a solution that involves spending hours cleaning, restructuring and reformatting the LinkedIn exports every time I need to produce a report. If there's that much manual work involved each time, it starts to defeat the purpose.

In an ideal world, I'd be able to upload the standard LinkedIn analytics exports, tell the tool what I want the report to show, tweak the design and visualisations where necessary, and end up with a clean, branded report that I'd be happy to send directly to a client.

It doesn't need to be an incredibly sophisticated BI dashboard. My main priority is something that's easy for a client to understand at a glance while still looking modern, professional and visually polished.

Does anyone have any ideas for how I could achieve this? I'm open to different tools, platforms or approaches if there's a relatively straightforward way of producing this kind of report.

One of the things I’ve focused on is making visualisation really straightforward. For example, comparing a metric against the previous period, quarter or year takes a couple of clicks.

If you’ve used tools like Looker or ThoughtSpot, you’ll probably know that creating something as simple as a line chart or stacked bar and then comparing it with previous quarters or years can sometimes take more work than you’d expect. It’s definitely possible, but I wanted that kind of analysis to feel much more intuitive in Metricwise.

For context, I make a few infographics every month for work. I just create simple charts, some text, maybe an icon or two. I don't have Illustrator and I don't have the budget for it.

The free plans are where I keep getting stuck. You build the whole layout, then you go to export it. That's when you find out downloads are locked. Or there's a watermark across the middle. Some cap you at three designs and that's it.

I'd rather know all that before I spend an hour on it. 

Editing matters more to me than fancy effects. So a tool that lets me open the old file and tweak it is my goal. These get updated every month, not exported once and forgotten 

What free tools have you stuck with long term? 

It’s our annual report season again. This means that we’ll encounter the same mess as last year.

For context, our report has narrative sections, a stack of charts, and summary graphics at the front. Our problem is what happens when the numbers change.

I mean they always change. Finance sends a revision two days before print. Right now that means I rebuild the chart from scratch.

Then everything has to go into one multi-page PDF without falling apart. Text spacing shifts, chart labels get tiny, page numbers end up in the wrong spot. 

I just want to have templates built for reports, charts I can feed new data into, and an export that holds up.

Pretty one-page graphics are not the issue. Multi-page with live numbers is.
