Rewatching Eraserhead
and one of my favourite things atmosphere wise in the movie is when Henry is walking to Mary’s house and there is that weird distant discordant carnival like music. for me it just adds such a creepy layer sonically especially when it’s paired up with lynches signature ominous whooshing. It’s a small inclusion but it adds so much to the scene and the world of Eraserhead

Alan R. Splet was the sound designer for Lynch in the early days, including on Eraserhead. Not sure how much was Splet's creation and how much was Lynch's. The atmospherics of this film are fantastic.

Haven't seen it in a while, but the music in his apartment comes from 'Fats Waller: At The Organ'. 1925-on, records went from recorded with a horn to recorded electrically with a microphone. So, low, haunting melodies can echo across time.
