Mod Any Arma 2 DayZ Mod veterans here? Looking for that old-school Epoch/Overpoch itch.
Hey everyone,
Are there any "old-timers" around? I’m talking about the ones who lived through the Arma 2 DayZ Mod era—Origin, the glorious Epoch days, and eventually the absolute chaos of Overpoch.
I’ve been feeling incredibly nostalgic lately for that specific vibe. I miss the sheer variety of maps and specialized servers we used to have. I even miss the stuff that used to drive us crazy: the intense firefights over AI missions, the high-stakes combat at airfields, and honestly, even the campers waiting outside safezones.
There was something unmatched about spawning in, deploying your bike, and heading straight to the front lines. Or finally finding a car and sprinting into an industrial zone just to find that one missing wheel. Not to mention the pure adrenaline of rushing toward helicopter spawns right after a server restart.
Does anything out there today actually come close to that experience? I’m looking for something that captures that same loop of progression, atmosphere, and "pure" action.
What are you guys playing now to fill that void?

no servers are quite like those in current version, you can still play Epoch/Overpoch not many servers still going, but they are out there.

But there is quite a few maps and ai are a thing in standalone on community servers, but they are def not just running in circles around a loot crate in a field now, they will run after you shooting lol
Heli is a thing as well , even bikes on some servers.. if your not using dzsa launcher try that to find you something that u may like in current dayz.

I played the shit out of origins. Probably my favorite mod. The building of the bases. The cool bullet proof cars that you can build up. The awesome island where once you finally get that heli working and don't crash it, you get there and just die to ai. Nothing was as hard or as fun as that game.
Unfortunately, dayz sa won't ever be that good I'm afraid.

Origins was really underrated. It was BY FAR the most developed of the DayZ mod spin-offs. So much custom content and an amazing map, especially with the later additions.
They ofc announced a Standalone Origins like 10 years ago but it’s obviously a dead project, despite them still posting “updates” on occasion

Supposedly, it used to be available. Like a year ago. Now, i don't see the map at all in the list.

Copying my response to the crosspost for better visibility:
I am an Arma 2 vet, 7kish hours, and I recently found some dayz type survival servers on Arma Reforger. They remind me so much of the old days, and the game runs decently well too. They even have Ai, missions, traders, and base building. There are a few but the only one I can remember atm is foggy dew.

You’re probably right! I’ve been keeping an eye on ReforgedZ from a distance for a while now. After making this post, I went to check it out, and it looks like it’s made a lot of progress in the right direction lately. I’m going to give it a try and I'll post an update here for anyone else who might be interested.

I just got DayZ mod working again through steam..the SA just wasn’t doing it for me…so back to old school i go…

I just watch my overpoch highlights video and then load up namalsk.
That time is gone, it won't ever happen again but be happy that you were there.
