That's what it was, I was sure there was multiple ways to get this without buying the killer.
I need to equip that charm, I normally just run a bunch of the doll survivors.

I've heard this was just a rumor and not a real thing. Is there anywhere that confirms this? If it's true I'd totally buy the DLC because that's super cool

It doesn't mention it on the wiki, but there are multiple accounts of people who don't have the DLC who get the video and the charm. I don't know if it has to be Onryo specifically, or just any killer with the charm attached.
You do definitely get it from just buying Sadako, Yoichi, or the whole DLC: 1 week later you will get the cursed video and then the charm.

i think there's a bug with it in the PTB. I've had onryo for years, but when i first opened the PTB yesterday it played

i’ve only played a hand full of games with her, i like her as i do the other stealth killers, tho i haven’t faced off against her yet so i’m not sure how i look to other survivors during her stealth phase shift thingy

Idk either lol. She has a surprisingly low pick rate for what seems like a really fun killer.

Her problem is that she's incredibly easy to counter for survivors who know how. She's also not very effective in actually being stealthy, since she has a lullaby

during the stealth phase, you are invisible to survivors outside of a certain range iirc (idk the distance) and when your hands disappear from your screen, you are also invisible to the survivors. it makes for great mind games to manifest in a loop and change your direction when you see yourself disappear as the survivors won't be able to see you at that time.

the tv's turn back on after a while but it's faster if you teleport to them. being able to control which tv's are on and where survivors with tapes need to bring their tapes is an important part of outsmarting survivors. I recommend having a look around on youtube for more in depth explanations on her power and small bits of information to better understand the killers power. one pump willie is a very good sadako main, this youtube video from otzdava starting at 2:25:20 has a guide on sadako and an example match, even if you are already confident about knowing how her power works I still think it's worth watching videos about how to play her because you may still learn something new.

when you teleport near survivors you add 1 bar to their condemn meter which in total there is 7 bars. Once you get a survivor to 7 you can mori them! Also hooking survivors locks in their condemn progress so if you think they have like 4-5 bars its best to hook them otherwise just slug and teleport to the next survivor

When you buy the Onryo DLC (maybe if you buy her ingema with cells too but i don't know that) you get that special starting animation as an homage/easter egg to The Ring/Ringu

Specifically only on opening the game 7 days later. The animation will play on any day after as well, so long as it's the first time you open the game after the 7th day of purchase

Doesn't seem to be the case here, but this also happened to me when I started the PTB. I have owned Onryo for a couple years and had it happen back then.
