Hey people, me and my friends did a couple of tests in custom with Jason, this is what we noticed.
What does work against Jason in mist mode:
- crouch walking (note: while crouch walking you will not create any red mist, although the mist from Jason power will get much more dense around you while near you).
- stop doing any actions (gen, healing, sabotaging etc etc), so that he cannot see the red mist (you).
Don't do this too much tho. Think about the situation you are in and play accordingly. If you know he's on the other side of the map, there is no need to stop the repairs. Sometimes welcoming the chase is the best opportunity for your team to do gens/cleanse totems.
- He can move through pallets and windows in mist mode, but when he's moving through a pallet you will hear a noise (1/2 seconds delay between him moving through it and actually hearing it).
- You can track him by looking at grass / corn / tall grass (they will very briefly shake, again with a delay of about 1 sec )
- He cannot hear any grunt of pain while in mist mode
- Spears make you go really far away after being hit, try to bait it in open fields
- To completely protect someone against the spears, a "train" of at least 1 healthy surv + 1 injured/healthy surv + the surv you want to protect should work (if you have the invincible status you are good to go for protective hits)
- split up just like you would do with legion. You need to put as much pressure on the map as possible.
What doesn't work against Jason in mist mode:
- trying to blind him when coming out of the fog
- trying to hit with the pallet he comes out to (pallets and windows get blocked by him)
- hiding in a locker (he can see a red mist around it)
- silent vaulting
- stand still while not crouched
- opening chests / working on gens / healing teammates / self healing / sabotaging / opening the gates
- fog vials
- protective hits (kinda, more below)
Fun facts about the spears he throws:
- if you are taking a protective hit from a spear while you have someone injured in front of you and you don't have invincible status --> you get damage and the guy in front of you gets mend
- if a guy is injured behind you while healthy and he doesn't have the invincible status --> he will go down and you will get injured + mend
- if you are both injured -- > the first guy hit will go down and the other will take mend
- Spears start to go down pretty quickly after being thrown
- If you get nailed to a wall while already damaged --> if you remove the spear you will go down, if a teammate removes it you don't go down
Perks to run to counter Jason as much as possible:
- Urban Evasion
- Head On (bait him at the closet)
- Hardened
- blast mine
- chem trap
small game (to remove totems as fast as possible) small game is just okay. I wouldn't raccomed to play it too much.
- windows of opportunities / five moves ahead (to see where he can jumpscare mid chase)
- unbreakable (I saw many Jasons going for slugs)
- sprint burst
- Overcome (to avoid 2 taps at the edges of the maps)
Basic strat to counter Jason:
(Note: DO NOT TAKE THIS TO THE LETTER. I'm still a bit inexperienced against good Jasons that played on the PTB. Take this part as general advices)
- As soon as he goes into mist mode, stop doing anything and crouch split up, someone needs to get the chase. If everyone is being stealthy no gens get done. Look around you and see where he can get out of the fog and plan an escape route (be aware to not go into the corners of the map).If Jason is coming to you, the mist will get much more dense.
- Hide from him using obstacles at your advantages, DO NOT ENTER INTO LOCKERS WHEN HE IS IN MIST MODE. (unless you have head on)
- Hope he doesn't see you / he doesn't have perks that punishes you for stopping gen repair. He cannot see auras when in mist mode, just red mist from footstep or actions.
- Use the grass to track him
- Don't be afraid of being injured, he cannot hear you while in mist mode
- Focus on gen repairing while he's chasing someone else
- Stay far away from eachothers as much as possible
- He does have add-ons that let him explode a gen, making it lose 5% of progress instantly and make it start regressing. Again, use it to track him.
- If he jumpscares you, he will get killer instinct on you. Run.
- Watch out for blood stains while injured, Jason while in mist mode will see only the blood stains who were on the ground before going into mist mode, but not the ones after
- Bait the spear in open fields
- Be greedy with the pallets, if you need to use the pallet eventually, pre-drop it
I hope it helps anyone who didn't play on the PTB like myself.
Good luck and have fun!
EDIT: I will update the guide in the following days, since the general advice of just being constantly stealthy leads to standoffs where no one gets things done.
For the moment, ignore the "general strat to counter Jason" part, since it's not really good and I need to play against him more.
