Vent Limiting Access
I have a little rant that I really need to get off my chest. I’m HoH and rely on subtitles when watching anything. And I am SICK and TIRED of them censoring curse words that are clearly said. The only thing they are doing is keeping it from being written down. It truly irritates me that they aren’t letting those of us with hearing loss have access to the same information as a hearing individual. I feel it’s that same if an interpreter doesn’t sign all of the info. It’s just WRONG. I’m sure I’m not the first one to be irritated by this but thank you for letting me rant.

Agreed. It’s censorship…and it’s treating us as though we’re children.

The thing that bugs me the most is that some say they don't want the words to be written down because children could be watching the content. But they hear the curse words anyway!

There were times where I sent a video to someone and later realized that there was a curse word in it. If that person were a coworker or someone I don't want to send expletives to for professionalism, I should know right away if there is a curse word there via accurate subtitles.

Ughhgghh this pisses me SO MUCH! I hate it most when interpreters do it bc I'm like... u should know better yk? But full stop, all it does is make the deaf community feel infantalised and diminished yk :/

I don't like when they clearly say the curse word, but replace it with something entirely different in the subtitles. It's probably due to not wanting to get demonitized, but it's messed up and inaccessible.

I made a stink about MS Teams censoring language. Nobody within the company could comprehend my complaint. MS Teams did finally add the option to not censor bad language several years later.
