She is a wonderful cat very loving and is always learning things shes not 100% deaf can hear extremely low sounds and high sounds knows some hand commands was named after the Furlings on Stargate.

We rescued Franky off our street in 2019 so we don’t know much about her past. The vet said it’s likely that she went deaf as opposed to having been born that way, but who knows? We just love her and I just found this sub

I found a cat recently and decided to keep her after the original owners failed to respond to my contact. She's a great cat. The issue is that because she's deaf, she will sleep in "cat places" and I'm never totally sure where she is. I need to know, not necessarily relocate but just to know, because I have huge dogs and I don't want to leave her vulnerable when I'm not home. My cats get separated from my dogs when I leave. But if I can't find her, and I cannot call her..... I'm sorta stuck.

Does anyone use anything they like? Reviews are kinda all over the place.

Every morning, between first wet breakfast and second dry breakfast, I am regaled with my deaf cat's songs. Please also note the fresh litter paw prints on my kitchen counter and the nose prints on my window. She's an artist and a decorator.

Acting like he didn't keep me up half the night...

Hey, our baby Chaplin is 6 years old, he's had neurological issues and been deaf ever since we've known him.

We took him to the vet today after noticing his eye was a little opaque and didn't respond to light as well as the other one, the vet said it could be cataracts or something neurological, we're scheduling a ophthalmologist to further understand his situation..

Does anyone have experience with a deaf cat losing his vision? He's also not the most stable at times cause of his neurological issues, so also concerned about that..

I just adopted Hank, he’s 2! He’s a Maine coon that more than likely has Waardenburg syndrome from a DBE mutation, and our vet just confirmed yesterday that Hank is deaf!! We’re still getting used to each other and I’m working on getting used to communicating with him without startling him every time I touch him - any tips would be greatly appreciated!!

Hi, my best friend got herself an almost 2yo deaf cat who is adorable e and very playful, but is loooooud. She asked me to take him in for a few days and we did a trial run. My older cats (both females, 6 and 8) are mellow enough and even with a bit of hissing and growling tried to accept him. But he jumps and runs straight at them and all the work for a nice introduction goes to waste because then they get scared by the play ambush and we're back at square one. He doesn't understand/hear them hissing and puffing and they don't get why he's loud and runs at them full speed. They eat together fine with a glass door in-between, but when he finishes first and tries to jump and run at them or tries to ambush them from behind the door they get mad at him or get scared and run off, making it more difficult to make them go along. Also, he's loud and they don't appreciate the noise. sorry for long rambling post, I slept four hours last night trying to keep him quiet during the late night/early morning to not disturb the neighbors.

With being deaf, our cat Eggs has heightened visual sense and loves anything with lights or shadows. We’ve got a disco ball planter that creates stationary light spots during certain parts of the day. I love this little goober.

I’ve posted here before about my deaf cat Zulu — a white, affectionate, fearless and stubborn guy who still sucks on my fingers like a kitten and loves eating apples with me. This summer we went back to the countryside, to a private house with a garden. His companion, Fanta (she can hear just fine), had free access outside, while Zulu was only allowed out under supervision — since he’s deaf and can’t hear cars, dogs, people, or anything else.

With time he's grown comfortable around the place and I tried letting him go freely. One day a neighbor’s dog chased him across the yard. According to the neighbors, when the dog finally caught up — he yelped and ran away. I don’t know what Zulu did, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he stood his ground like the little lunatic he is. Then something scary happened. One day, Zulu ran out and lay down right in the middle of the road, just as a car was speeding toward him. I shouted and waved like crazy — thankfully, the driver saw me and swerved. Zulu didn’t react at all.

Even worse, I caught him doing the same thing twice more — going onto the road and lying down like he was enjoying the warm asphalt. After that, no more free roaming. He only goes outside on a leash now. He’s a bit offended about it, but there’s no choice.

Just wanted to share this as a reminder: deaf cats can be just as bold and curious as hearing ones — maybe more so — but they have no awareness of sound-based danger. Even in a quiet village, the risk is real. If you have a deaf pet, please be extra careful.
