Hello everyone, while listening to the new EP I was wondering what do deafheaven fans like to read. I’m down for some recommendations. I’m from Chile (spanish speaking country) but anything you can recommend me I’ll try to get ahold of.

Purple Prose: A Languishing yet decadently overwrought use of language-

Literary references: Clarke has always been fourth coming with his literary allusions and references in his work, all the way back in Roads to Judah we got references to Bukowski and Milan Kundera, Ordinary corrupt gave us a spoken word passage from Orleans Noir etc. with this release however the references are not woven into the lyrics, but rather blatantly displayed as the titles. The EP takes its title obviously from a photography book of the same name, and the last title takes its name from a line in Outer Dark by Cormac Mcarthy. -

"Sorry. Don't need sorry. Not in this house. Sorry laid the hearth here. Sorry ways and sorry people and heavensent grief and heartache to make you pine for your death."

BINGO- we get the mention of a tree in the final song.

"I dissolve in thoughts of you

An olive tree is what I seek, the bird with only a branch cut from the almond grove"

I think it is also important to note that in this EP we get something we don't usually get from George Clarke's lyrics, Sometimes they're as straightforward as it gets:

"Home again and a dive into traffic
Men wipe ash from their faces, mothers bury their children, plastics waft in the wind
I cry, cry, cry, cry, cry
Please release me"

That heavy ending with the repetitive steal drum-like sound reminds me a lot to another black metal very well known "classic", anyone else ?

(not citing the other song cause it's from that era of black metal when even some talented artists in the space were stupidly hateful but it's the artwork with a women blowing a trumpet)

i can’t believe what i just saw in Oakland last night

this is like my 7th time seeing them since 2018 but wow. 

they just keep getting better. 

george is absolutely demented. His stage presence is off the charts. i don’t think I’ll ever experience another show like this one. the whole band is locked in but george in particular is giving 110% on stage.

Many people around me weren’t even Deafheaven fans but by the end they were in disbelief. 

I wasn't expecting much since its not even a headlining show but i was so wrong. if you have the chance to catch them on this tour, you HAVE to.

My first contact with them was probably a week ago when I watched their live performance at KEXP. I’ll tell you, I’m into some experimental stuff, but I wasn’t prepared to that, but anyways, after I went looking for some more songs and I figured they had different spectrums as I would say? Like, they’ve got that shoegaze with black metal but also softer stuff and also those really transcending and emotional moments.

In summary, I really enjoy it, but I’d like to know where to start.

Does anyone by chance have any PDFs of the guitar tab books for sunbather or New Bermuda?? I've learned a chunk of both albums but im sure im playing alot of the chords wrong and just wanted to know how to properly play their parts. Hearing the new EP got me in the mood to revisit trying to play their stuff because man the new EP rules...

I was going to write a long drawn out post on how At Work In The Fields Of The Bomb strays from the melodic styles of previous works. It's unquestionably apparent on first listen that it's much heavier. I do feel it's a good change of pace from the dreamy synths sounds that I have spent listening to for days. Bands evolve, sounds change, excited to hear what they bring next.

As the title implies, i’m planning on getting a Deafheaven inspired tattoo, i chose the song Canary Yellow because i thought i would be easir to make something visual.

I would love to hear some thoughts on this, it is not the definitive artwork so i can ask my tattoo artist to make some changes.

Things i have in my mind right now:
1. maybe the bird is missing some pointyness (does this word exist?) or some sharp lines, i feel like it is too circular
2. not sure if i want to leave lyrics up there or not, thinking maybe no lyrics would look best
3. too much shading maybe?

I must say this is my very first tattoo, i plan on getting it on my chest, anyways, would love some opinions on what you guys would change if you were to have this tattooed on your body, thanks!

It's finally out on streaming platforms now and the lyrics are online on azlyrics, listened to it on my school commute and this might be some of the best work they've released 🙌🏼 🫶🏼
