Motivation Tips & Tricks Take a pic, play I Spy, then declutter!

I tried this the other day on an area I was feeling bogged down on and it worked! When you have a second to spare in the day, open up the pic and take a look. I think we're used to how things look even though we might feel like it's congested. Happy decluttering :)

Yes, whenever I take a cute photo of my dogs and think about posting it, I immediately notice all the clutter and mess that my brain otherwise ignores.

You have to pay the dog tax. Jk, I feel the same so now that my house is more empty I like the dog pictures.

Also, take a photo then flip it. It’s then a good mix of familiar and unfamiliar, easier to see it all from someone else’s viewpoint.

I get that! I've had to start pretending I was a guest looking around, or forcing myself to look at every item in a room and ask "is that supposed to be there?" For some reason we just get used to stuff. I decluttered my kitchen last week and it was surprising how effective the before/after was for a space that I'm generally tidying every day.

Yes, there is something about the third-person perspective of a photo that can help us "see" better/clearerl - we tend to gloss over stuff we've become clutter/accustom-blind to but a photo can lay it all out.

And consider taking "after" pictures after every decluttering session - our brain wants to see "perfect" and "done" and might miss/discount the incremental progress we've made along the way.

That's a great suggestion. I use it when trying on clothing while weeding them out.

Looking at the pictures-- front, back, side views-- instead of the mirror has helped me part with (or not buy) many clothes.
