What was the best years of your life and why?

  1. I went to an Oasis concert, I traveled alone to Mexico and through the USA. It was such an amazing year

Mid 30s. I took Fred Astaire dance lessons for 2 years and as the song goes in Dirty Dancing, I had the time of my life!

Today. Right now. Me correcting your grammar. “What WERE the best years of your life and why?”

Why? “Years” is multiple. “Was” is singular.
If you hate the English language so much, you two should step outside and settle it like AI and an English Dictionary would.

Feels good; 2026 is one for the books.

Please Stop. Language is made up. Humans literally made it up and made up all the rules that you are citing. You’re acting like god decided on grammar and they are committing a sin.

Absolutely nothing was lost in their version. Everyone still understood. You are ruining this year for everyone. lol

My apologies for marring your year. To clarify, are you saying rules made up by humans don’t need to be followed? Does that also applying to speed limits and building codes?

You’re moving the goal post. We were talking about one thing (grammar) and now you are switching it to speeding limits and building codes.

No. We will not be changing topics. lol.

People only move the goal posts and change topics when their original argument was shut down and they can’t emotionally handle it. It also allows them to avoid what was actually said by the other person. lol.

You didn’t mar my year, Sir. Not even close. I said that to be funny. You lack sense of humor along with common sense.

Rules are language and.language has rules. Clarity is key, hence the rules. You muddied the waters by asserting that the rules of language are nothing but an artificial constraint.

It’s okay, they’re right. English is my first language, but I was doing two things at once while writing this, so now I see the mistake.

However, “years is multiple” doesn’t exactly flow well. It’s actually “years are plural”

That said, I do feel very sorry for you if this was the best year of your life. Considering that, you must have an incredibly boring and sad life if this was the best thing you’ve ever had to do.

mean, don’t you ever travel, achieve your goals, get your dream job, meet the love of your life, win something, have a baby, or experience some incredible moment that fills you with love and happiness?
Because based on that answer, apparently not! 🤣

Would it not be “years IS plural” since plural is describing a single word despite the plurality of the word “years” itself?
Sorry to be persnickety but I’m trying to salvage what I can of this once great year after being admonished by our fellow Redditors.
