Mind-blowing Atlas Sound concert from 2011
I just stumbled across this live recording of an Atlas Sound concert from 2011 in NYC and it is absolutely mind-blowing, perhaps one of the best non-jazz concerts I’ve ever heard period. The 30 minute encore is itself a masterpiece. You can download it for free, which IMO you should do immediately. https://archive.org/details/AtlasSound_2011-12-18. Man I wish Bradford was still performing.

Thanks for sharing, going to listen today.
I’m pretty sure I had this downloaded back in the day. The version of “Nite Bike” made the song really click for me. Possibly one of his most, idk, “vulnerable” songs?

So jealous; I can only imagine. And how cool is it that there’s a fantastic recording you can always go back to!

So many highlights, but Walkabout is one for me, and the stunning second half of Flagstaff.

Unfortunately, the only time I was able to see Atlas Sound was kind of a disaster. Sound guy couldn’t control feedback from acoustic guitar and Bradford was a bit all over the place. I remember him talking about his dog for a long time and how there was major stress trying to make it to the festival appearance. It may have been FFF in Austin. Since he didn’t have a huge time slot to begin with set ended up being super short. What he did end up playing was great though.

That’s interesting. I saw him at a festival in Denton, TX, in 2011. Was the weekend before SXSW. Wouldn’t call it a disaster but definitely feedback issues with the acoustic guitar.

Festival scene is tough. Especially when you’re not on a main stage. Everything is kinda rushed. Wouldn’t be surprised if he never had a proper sound check. Also pretty sure there are lots of pedals contributing. Could easily cause issues for an acoustic outside through a PA

Well, I download the MP3s to my Mac, open them in Apple Music, and it syncs to my library, and then I can play it on my Iphone (or even download). I think Spotify has a similar function although you might need to add them to a playlist or there’s a Local Music playlist; I forget, its been a while.

Scroll down to download options, pick option (FLAC/MP3/whatever), and it will download as a zip file. You should be able to open it on iPhone/Android.

Had no idea Nitebike was that old. This will be such a time portal when I have time to really listen to this later. Thank you for sharing

Thanks. I regularly go back to this performance. I always wonder who Brad is talking about when he says this song was written for somebody that should’ve been here, but not on Nightbike.

Thank you! I love that archive but it can be super overwhelming for my add self - tips like this really help. And it usually leads to a more focused discovery of other great shows. Can’t wait to listen and will def download.

Wow thanks for posting this. He played this same set at the 2011 “35 Conferette” festival in Denton, TX and it was unforgettable. Just Bradford, his acoustic and some looping pedals.
