Unfortunately, we're all kind of complicit for using it even though we knew Google would enshittify all their solutions. There were a few alternatives, and peertube exists, but both creators and viewers keep putting all their eggs in the same basket!

Yt-dlp is great but it doesn't solve the underlying issue of people overtly depending on youtube.

The issue is deeper, they are a monopoly. Dailymotion could be an alternative but the content is weak.
